Backstage News On Special Entrance Planned For Rhea Ripley At WWE WrestleMania 40

WrestleMania season means WWE will be bringing its A-game when it comes to the pomp and circumstance that usually surround “The Showcase of the Immortals.” One area that often gets a massive upscale is entrances, especially for popular champions like WWE Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley.

PWInsider Elite is reporting that metalcore band Motionless In White is in Philadelphia for WrestleMania 40 weekend, likely set to play Ripley’s theme song “Demon In Your Dreams” — for which Chris Motionless provided the vocals — before Ripley’s match against “The Man” Becky Lynch on Night 1 of the two-night event. Ripley told Wrestling Inc. in an exclusive interview at last year’s WrestleMania that she was attempting to set up such a performance in the future; the band was unable to appear at WrestleMania 39 because they were in Germany at the time.

It was at WrestleMania 39 that Ripley won what is now the Women’s World Championship, dethroning Lynch’s Four Horsewomen comrade, Charlotte Flair. She has now held the title for a full year, but she’ll need all the motivation she can get, as she’s not only facing a tough former champion in Lynch, but also entering WrestleMania with wrist issues and other lingering problems that come with an active schedule like hers. Ripley is also keeping an eye on more than just Lynch, as she’s been paying attention to WWE’s latest signing Jade Cargill and is so far impressed with the former AEW TBS Champion’s progress. Ripley even said she’d like to step in the ring with Cargill somewhere down the line.

The Rock Is Giving One Fan An All-Expenses Paid Trip To WWE WrestleMania 40

Despite playing a convincing villain on WWE TV in recent months, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is still as charitable as ever. Responding to a picture of a fan’s tattoo on social media platform X, Johnson invited the man and his daughter to this weekend’s WWE WrestleMania 40.

After seeing The Rock live last month, the fan had Johnson sign his arm. Before the marker washed away, the fan had the signature made permanent, with Johnson now rewarding his dedication. In addition to covering tickets to the show, transportation, and a hotel, Johnson even offered to cover the cost of food for the pair during their trip.

WrestleMania 40 will be a two-night affair once again, and the lineup for both shows has been announced. The Rock will team with his cousin, Roman Reigns, against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on night one. Should Johnson and Reigns win, Sunday’s main event between Reigns and Rhodes will have the Bloodline Rules stipulation. If Rhodes and Rollins win, then The Bloodline will be banned from ringside.

Including the drama involving The Bloodline, WrestleMania 40 is set to feature 13 matches. Rhea Ripley will defend the Women’s World Championship against Becky Lynch, a Six-Pack Ladder Match is scheduled with the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship on the line, and Logan Paul will attempt to hang onto the WWE United States Championship in a Triple Threat with Kevin Owens and Randy Orton. Brothers Jimmy and Jey Uso will face each other in singles action for the first time, and Sami Zayn will attempt to topple GUNTHER to capture the WWE Intercontinental Championship, along with several other matches.

3 WWE Legends Reportedly Expected To Have Something At WrestleMania 40

With 10 matches already announced for WrestleMania 40, and perhaps several others still to be added, WWE fans in Philadelphia and across the world will have plenty to keep up with over the course of two nights on April 6 and 7. And now, according to Dave Meltzer, they can potentially look forward to three legendary names participating in some fashion as well.

In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer reports that “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, The Undertaker, and John Cena “will have something at WrestleMania in some form.” The report also states there is no creative set in stone (specifically for Cena or Austin) currently or that, if there is, it could be a well-guarded secret. What any or all of these legends ends up doing is still predicated on several variables, including their willingness to participate and what the financial incentives might be. In Cena’s case, Meltzer says he is free from any movie obligations but “depending on what acting stuff he has and how quick after [WrestleMania] he’s filming would determine how much he can or can’t do for insurance reasons.”

Austin, of course, last appeared for WWE defeating Kevin Owens in a Street Fight at WrestleMania 38 Night One and then returned the next evening to dish out Stunners to Pat McAfee, Austin Theory, and Vince McMahon. Cena faced Theory in a losing effort at WrestleMania 39, and then returned to WWE full-time for a two-month run in late 2023, culminating in a loss to Solo Sikoa at Crown Jewel. Undertaker hasn’t officially competed in WWE since WrestleMania 36’s Boneyard Match win over AJ Styles, though he did appear on “WWE NXT” in October 2023, chokeslamming Bron Breakker.

The Rock Acknowledges Roman Reigns, Lays Out WrestleMania Challenge On WWE SmackDown

Cody Rhodes, World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, and Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns may be pulling double duty WrestleMania 40 weekend, following Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson issuing a challenge with set stipulations during the opening of Friday’s “WWE SmackDown.” The Rock also acknowledged his cousin, Reigns, as his Tribal Chief during the segment after Reigns interrupted Rock’s iconic “if you smell” catchphrase.

Rhodes had previously challenged the Rock to a one-on-one match during “The Grayson Waller Effect” at Elimination Chamber. Rollins did him one better and said he would team with Rhodes to take on the Rock and Reigns. On “SmackDown,” Rock said he wouldn’t be facing Rhodes one-on-one because everyone wants to challenge “The Great One.” He did challenge both Rhodes and Rollins to the tag team match the World Heavyweight Champion previously suggested at the premium live event, but with added stipulations.

Rock said that if Rhodes and Rollins win on WrestleMania Night One, the Bloodline would be barred from ringside during Rhodes’ match for Reigns’ title on Night Two. However, if the babyface team loses, Rock said the title match would be a “Bloodline Rules” match where anything goes. Rock said he was giving Rhodes the option to accept the challenge, but if he doesn’t, he said he is going to make sure Rhodes does not win the title.

There’s currently no word on if Rollins and Rhodes will acknowledge the challenge on “WWE Raw” on Monday, but Rhodes is scheduled to appear on the next three episodes of “SmackDown” alongside the Rock on the “Road to WrestleMania.”

Reported Date For The Rock & Roman Reigns Vs. Seth Rollins & Cody Rhodes In WWE

To say that the road to WWE WrestleMania 40 has been eventful would be an understatement, as the proposed main event between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes has been confirmed, dropped, and re-assigned within a few weeks. Not only that, but The Rock has gotten involved and joined The Bloodline, while Seth Rollins has put his differences with the “American Nightmare” aside to fight the good fight for WWE. This story took another turn at Elimination Chamber in Perth when Rhodes challenged The Rock to a match, prompting Rollins to offer his support in the battle against the Bloodline.

The idea of the Bloodline against Rhodes and Rollins is enough to get even the most casual WWE fired up, and it might be on the cards. According to Dave Meltzer on the latest edition of “Wrestling Observer Radio,” he’s heard that the match could headline night one of WrestleMania 40. While this is all speculation at this time, it would mean that both Rollins and Reigns would pull double duty over WrestleMania weekend, as they would both have to defend their respective championships on night two.

While Reigns vs. Rhodes has been officially confirmed for some time, Rollins is scheduled to defend the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 40. This follows McIntyre’s victory in the men’s Elimination Chamber match this past Saturday in Perth. The Rock and Reigns have yet to answer the callout made by the “American Nightmare” at Elimination Chamber, a topic of discussion that might crop up this Friday when the Bloodline makes an appearance on the March 1 edition of “SmackDown.”

Backstage Report On Scrapped WWE Plans For Cody Rhodes, The Rock & The Bloodline

Last week’s WrestleMania 40 Kickoff press event saw Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson join forces with Roman Reigns, while 2024 men’s Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes revealed he would challenge “The Tribal Chief” for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at the two-night show in April. That presser followed several days of confusion, after “The American Nightmare” seemingly stepped aside to allow Johnson to face Reigns at WrestleMania. According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there was once a different idea on the table heading into last Thursday’s event in Las Vegas.

Per the report, WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque had a plan to shoot an injury angle on the February 2 episode of “WWE SmackDown” — the same night Rhodes said he wouldn’t be challenging Reigns at WrestleMania 40 and Johnson confronted Reigns — where The Bloodline would “take out” Rhodes. That would have then led to Reigns vs. Johnson being officially announced for Philadelphia at the Kickoff. However, Rhodes would eventually return and challenge for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Although things played out a lot differently, it’s said that Levesque “scrambled” to keep Rhodes in the mix at all times.

Additionally, the newsletter mentioned “Rhodes was never going to get screwed” and he was always set to face Reigns, although it was unclear whether that title clash would be at WrestleMania or another premium live event down the line. Furthermore, the Rhodes injury angle idea for the February 2 “SmackDown” was ultimately nixed after CM Punk, who was reportedly set to challenge Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40, got injured in the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble match. Levesque initially touted Rhodes to fill Punk’s spot, with a title match against Reigns coming at a later date. However, it was determined that Rollins vs. Rhodes would have made “no sense” if the trigger was pulled on The Bloodline attacking Rhodes.

Why Cody Rhodes Initially Stepped Aside For The Rock At WWE WrestleMania 40 (Report)

Since the start of 2024, a slew of unexpected factors have seemingly resulted in some major shifts in the plan for WWE WrestleMania XL. Many fans have been captivated, for good or for ill, by the saga of Cody Rhodes in the lead-up to this year’s big event. In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer offered some additional details on the journey to Rhodes’ main event rematch against Roman Reigns.

According to Meltzer, following the injury to CM Punk, the decision was made internally to have Rhodes shift to facing Seth Rollins. With that in mind, WWE head of creative Paul “Triple H” Levesque came up with the idea for the segment on the February 2 edition of “WWE SmackDown,” with Rhodes stepping aside and offering his support for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to face Reigns instead.

Levesque reportedly believed that Rhodes’ endorsement of The Rock would tie up the storyline’s loose ends, but the fan reaction was overwhelmingly negative. At that point, an audible was called, with Johnson and his longtime writing and producing partner Bryan Gewirtz (a former WWE head writer) feeling that The Rock should turn heel based on the crowd response. That led to the WWE WrestleMania XL Kickoff press conference, pitting Rhodes and Rollins against Johnson and Reigns.

When the plan was for Rhodes to face Rollins, the idea within the company was that there would be no Men’s Elimination Chamber match at the next premium live event. However, as plans continued to shift around, it was decided to go back to that match to set up Rollins’ WrestleMania opponent. As many may have expected, the original plan was for Punk to win the Men’s Elimination Chamber until he suffered an injury at the 2024 WWE Royal Rumble.
