Backstage News On Charlotte Flair Defeating Asuka For The SmackDown Women’s Title, Stars React To Their Women’s Title Opportunity Being Scrapped

On Tuesday night’s SmackDown Live, Charlotte Flair faced Asuka for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. It was a rematch of their WrestleMania 34 encounter, and Charlotte once again beat her, winning the title in the process.

Flair is now an eight-time champion. Originally, plans were for Ronda Rousey to defend the RAW Women’s Championship against Charlotte and Becky Lynch in the main event of WrestleMania 35. Now there are two champions in the match.

According to Dave Meltzer on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Charlotte winning the Smackdown Womens’ Championship wasn’t planned until the day of SmackDown Live.

The idea of Charlotte going into WrestleMania with a title has been talked about for a while, but the trigger was pulled last night.

All four scorned competitors took to Twitter afterward to vent their frustrations.

“I’m a very very patient person with a long fuse, but let me tell you when it blows, you won’t want to be the one in my way,” Sonya wrote. While her current frenemy Mandy claimed that WWE brass was “Putting all the equity in the wrong blonde.”

Carmella simply tweeted a expressionless emoji, followed by “Push through,” and Naomi just shared the word “Welp.”

WWE has announced via a press release that Rock N’ Roll icon Joan Jett will be performing at WrestleMania 35. The Hall of Famer will be doing a live rendition of Bad Reputation, a song Ronda Rousey uses as her theme music.

“The Queen of Rock N’ Roll, Joan Jett, is a music legend and icon for powerful women everywhere.” stated SVP and General Manager of WWE Music Group Neil Lawi.”Her performance at this year’s WrestleMania promises to be both exhilarating and inspiring, and we are honored to watch her join a distinct list of extraordinary performers who have lit up the WWE stage.”

Ronda has been using Bad Reputation as her entrance since she started MMA. It became a rallying cry while she became the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion.

Founder of the Runaways, Joan Jett has entertained many for over 40 years with her songs, “I Hate Myself for Loving You” and “I love Rock ‘N Roll”. She is not the first artist to perform a superstar’s entrance. She joins Snoop Dogg, Motorhead, Rev Theory, Limp Bizkit and Mark Crozer among others.

SNL Stars Colin Jost And Michael Che To Compete At WrestleMania In The Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

SNL Weekend Update anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che have officially been added as competitors in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania.

It all went down on Raw last night when Jost and Che appeared on “A Moment of Bliss” in an attempt to settle their beef with Braun Strowman.

That didn’t work, however, and it ended with Braun challenging Colin to squash their beef by entering the annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

Che attempted to accept on his behalf, but his co-star suggested he join him in the match.

Braun asked WrestleMania host Alexa Bliss to make it official, and she obliged.

Watch how it all ended below.

WWE Announces Main Event Of WrestleMania 35

WWE has confirmed that the RAW Women’s Title Triple Threat between champion Ronda Rousey, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair will be the main event of WrestleMania 35.

Below is the full announcement on the first-ever women’s WrestleMania main event:

WrestleMania to feature first-ever women’s main event

For the first time in WWE history, a women’s match will be the main event of WrestleMania as the Raw Women’s Championship Match featuring Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch will take place on Sunday, April 7, in front of a capacity crowd at MetLife Stadium and streaming live on WWE Network around the world.

Ronda Rousey is the current Raw Women’s Champion, Olympic medalist, the first female UFC Champion and the first woman to be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame. She is also an actress and New York Times bestselling author. Charlotte Flair is a seven-time Champion in WWE, a former Division 1 volleyball player, philanthropist and author. She is the daughter of two-time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair. Becky Lynch is the 2019 Women’s Royal Rumble winner, a two-time SmackDown Women’s Champion and was named Wrestler of the Year by both Sports Illustrated and CBS Sports in 2018. She was also the first woman ever to top ESPN’s WWE Power Rankings.

At WrestleMania 32 in 2016, WWE re-branded the Divas Division the Women’s Division and unveiled a new Women’s Championship title. Since that time, the women’s evolution has placed a greater spotlight on WWE’s female Superstars, including more prominent storylines and deeper character development that showcases their athleticism, charisma and star power.

Last October, WWE held it’s first-ever all-women’s pay-per-view event, Evolution, in front of a sold-crowd and millions more watching on WWE Network.

Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey responds to the historic news:

WWE Changing Kurt Angle’s Opponent For WrestleMania 35 Farewell Match?

According to the @WrestleVotes account on Twitter, the “Farewell Match” for Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 35 could be changing.

The Twitter account, which has broken multiple WWE stories in the past, is reporting that due to the overwhelmingly negative response to Baron Corbin being announced as Angle’s final opponent inside the squared circle for WWE, the company is considering changing things up.

There is no word yet regarding whether or not WWE is committed to changing Angle’s opponent for next month’s big event, or if they do, who that new opponent will be (although John Cena has been rumored for a while now).

We will keep you posted if-and-when new information regarding Kurt Angle’s “Farewell Match” at WrestleMania 35 surfaces.

WWE is reportedly finalizing plans on other names from the past that they are looking to bring in for WrestleMania 35 weekend. WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin has been talked about quite a bit, but there’s no word yet on what he might be appearing for.

Backstage Notes On WrestleMania Matches, Rumors About The Updated Card, AEW’s Influence

WrestleMania season is upon us, and this year’s card is turning out to be a packed show with rumor circulating that 17 or more matches may be featured at the event.

As of WWE’s Fastlane PPV, the main event matches for WrestleMania 35 were determined as Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar for Lesnar’s WWE Universal Heavyweight Championship and Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Rousey for Rousey’s WWE RAW Women’s Championship.

Apart from those high-caliber matches, we also found out last night that Kurt Angle’s opponent for his retirement match has been set as Baron Corbin. It was announced that Braun Strowman will be a part of the annual Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal as well.

On this morning’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer mentioned that the women’s battle royal that was recently added to the WrestleMania card each year will indeed still be taking place at WrestleMania 35. Not only that, but apparently 3 or 4 other matches that haven’t been talked about on WWE TV are still in the works to be featured on the card.

This increase in length for WrestleMania is a trend that has been proven true every year, and it’s an idea that has carried over in to the other annual PPV events. WrestleMania 32‘s main card ended around the 286 minute mark, WrestleMania 33 reached 305 minutes, and last year’s WrestleMania 34 had a runtime of 314 minutes. If those are any sign of what is to come, Forbes.com may be correct when they say that this “will likely become the longest WWE pay-per-view of all time.”

Forbes.com also noted that superstar morale in WWE is what has inspired this “all hands on deck” mindset with the WrestleMania 35 card, and with the forthcoming launch of All Elite Wrestling, employee morale is important as ever.

WrestleMania 35 takes place on April 7 from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Below is the updated card:

Beth Phoenix Is Coming Out Of Retirement At WrestleMania

Beth Phoenix is coming out of retirement at WrestleMania 35 to challenge for gold.

Phoenix announced she’s coming out retirement on RAW last night and challenged to Sasha Banks & Bayley for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania with Natalya as her partner.

While the actual match and all of the opponents involved were not confirmed as of yet, the WWE Hall of Famer’s partner Natalya had a one-one-on match with Sasha which was interrupted by Nia Jax on the microphone.

Nia claimed she was prettier, stronger version of “The Glamazon,” then her partner Tamina interfered in the match causing it to end in a no contest.

There is talk that the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match will be a multi-team match. Sasha & Bayley announced that will be on SmackDown live tonight and they are not ducking a challenge from The IIconics.

Kurt Angle Announces WrestleMania 35 Opponent, Elias To Perform At WrestleMania

WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle announced on tonight’s RAW from Chicago that Baron Corbin will be his final opponent. Angle vs. Corbin will take places as the Farewell Match at WrestleMania 35.

At one point it was thought Angle would face John Cena in his farewell match at WrestleMania 35 and over the weekend it was thought his opponent would be Shelton Benjamin after Benjamin issued the challenge to Angle on social media and Angle replied back that he accepts.
