The New Day Reaches Milestone

Wednesday, The New Day became the longest reigning WWE tag team champions in history by breaking the 331 title reign set by Paul London and Brian Kendrick. If you combine title reigns, The New Day are way ahead at 382 days and counting, while London & Kendrick are at second with 331 days for their only run with the titles.

It should be noted that the record is for the WWE Tag Team Championship, which was established for the SmackDown! brand in 2002 before being unified with the World Tag Team Championship in 2009. The World Tag Team Championship dates back to 1971 and the record that title sits at 698 combined days for Demolition’s three reigns.

The New Day To Induct The Fabulous Freebirds Into WWE Hall Of Fame

WWE issued the following:

The Fabulous Freebirds revolutionized tag team wrestling in their heyday, and now, one of the biggest beneficiaries of their innovations will induct them into the WWE Hall of Fame. Before a sold-out American Airlines Center and a worldwide audience watching on WWE Network, reigning WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day will present Michael “P.S.” Hayes, Terry Gordy, Buddy Roberts and Jimmy Garvin  as members of the Hall’s Class of 2016.

“You talk about smooth tag team wrestling and people that wrestled like a family, the Freebirds were one of the first wrestling families that were able to take over,” Kofi Kingston told WWE.com.

The tie that binds these two factions is the “Freebird Rule” Hayes and his crew created, allowing any two members of their team to participate in a match or defend their titles. Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods have used the Freebird Rule to their advantage, using it to hang on to the WWE Tag Team Titles during their two reigns as champions.

“The Freebird Rule has helped The New Day in many ways,” Xavier Woods said. “It allows us to create a different kind of strategy against our opponents that no other team has. You don’t know if you’re going up against Kofi and Big E, Kofi and myself, or Big E and myself.  We have different strategies for different opponents. You never know what you’re going to get, like a box of Booty-Os.”

And just how does the always entertaining trio plan on honoring the Freebirds? WWE.com tried to get Kingston, Woods and Big E to offer a hint, but The New Day would not budge.

“Oh, you want our secrets, huh? You want us to open our box of secrets?” Big E replied. “No, sir! You have to wait and see!”

How will The New Day pay homage to one of sports-entertainment’s most influential factions? Find out when the WWE Tag Team Champions induct The Fabulous Freebirds into the WWE Hall of Fame on Saturday, April 2, live at 8 ET/5 PT, only on WWE Network!

What Big Idea Have The New Day Pitched For Their WrestleMania 32 Entrance?

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day reportedly want to fly around the AT&T Stadium on unicorns for their big entrance at WrestleMania 32 next month.

At last word WWE officials had not approved the idea but it noted said by The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that they have a less than 50% chance of getting it approved.

Big E recently spoke with GuideLive and confirmed they had been working on a big entrance:

“We’ve already kind of started getting people excited about our entrance – which I’ve kind of wanted to temper expectations, but we had some media hits this morning, and Woods and Kofi were already telling people to look out for our entrance. So, I suppose our WrestleMania entrance is the big plan. There’s a good chance that it all gets nixed, and people are very disappointed, but we have something cooking.”

Big Entrance For The New Day At WrestleMania 32?

Recently Guide Live conducted a Q&A with Big E, who was promoting WrestleMania 32. Below are some highlights:

Which WrestleMania match he’s most looking forward to:

“Shane and ‘Taker, for sure. I think that’s such an interesting matchup with so much on the line that a lot of people will have their eyes turned to that one. And also, I’m really excited to see what the women will do. I’m not sure what that match will be. If I had to guess, I’m assuming, possibly it looks like maybe we’re looking at a triple threat for the Divas title – Charlotte, Becky, and Sasha appears to be lining up. There’s a decent amount of pressure on those women with the whole ‘Diva’s Revolution.’ I think a lot of people are excited to see what they do to represent for all the talented women in wrestling.”

A possible big entrance for the New Day at WrestleMania:

“We’ve already kind of started getting people excited about our entrance – which I’ve kind of wanted to temper expectations, but we had some media hits this morning, and Woods and Kofi were already telling people to look out for our entrance. So, I suppose our WrestleMania entrance is the big plan. There’s a good chance that it all gets nixed, and people are very disappointed, but we have something cooking.”

Big E also discussed working with veterans like the Dudleys and Chris Jericho, the post-WrestleMania RAW, New Day’s status heading into Mania and more. You can read the full interview by clicking here.
