WWE SmackDown Preview 5/21/21

Tonight’s WWE SmackDown on FOX will feature fallout from the WrestleMania Backlash pay-per-view.

WWE has announced just one match for tonight’s show and that’s a Fatal 4 Way with WWE Intercontinental Champion Apollo Crews defending against Big E, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens.

A WWE preview for tonight noted that WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns will be looking to maintain his status as The Head of The Table following the Backlash win over Cesaro and the issues with The Usos.

The Seth Rollins vs. Cesaro feud should continue on tonight’s show based on how Backlash ended, and an appearance by new SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Mysterios is also likely.

Tonight’s SmackDown should also feature the first blue brand build for Hell In a Cell.

WWE SmackDown Preview 5/14/21

Tonight’s WWE SmackDown on FOX will feature the go-home build for Sunday’s WrestleMania Backlash pay-per-view.

WWE has announced just one match for tonight’s show and that’s Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler defending the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles against Natalya and Tamina Snuka.

WWE has also announced that Cesaro and WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns will make “one last stand” before their title match on Sunday.

It’s believed that Reckoning (Mia Yim) will make her blue brand debut on tonight’s show, but that has not been confirmed. She was reportedly scheduled to debut last week but the debut was delayed due to time constraints. The latest Aleister Black vignette was also nixed from last week’s show, and should air this week.

WWE SmackDown Preview 5/7/21 -Special Throwback Themed Episode

Tonight’s WWE SmackDown on FOX will be a special “Go Back/Throwback” episode.

WWE has only announced one match for tonight’s throwback show and that’s Cesaro vs. Seth Rollins.

It’s also teased that the feud between Cesaro and WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns will continue tonight, and there may be some follow-up to Daniel Bryan losing the Career vs. Title match last night.

Tonight’s show should also see an update on the WrestleMania Backlash card.

It’s believed that Sasha Banks will confront SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair on tonight’s show. Last week’s post-WrestleMania 37 episode reportedly was to feature Banks confronting Belair, but that never happened.

Pat McAfee joins Michael Cole on the WWE SmackDown announce team.

WWE has announced two matches for tonight – Otis vs. Rey Mysterio, plus Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler defending their SmackDown Tag Team Titles against The Street Profits.

WWE has indicated that we will find out what’s next for WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns following his WrestleMania win over Daniel Bryan and WWE Hall of Famer Edge. Reigns’ double pin may be addressed tonight by Adam Pearce and referee Charles Robinson.

WWE is also teasing that we will find out what’s next for new SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair following her WrestleMania 37 win over Sasha Banks. An appearance by new WWE Intercontinental Champion Apollo Crews and his new muscle, Commander Azeez, is also likely.

Pat McAfee Joins The WWE SmackDown Announce Team

Pat McAfee has joined the WWE SmackDown announce team.

WWE and McAfee just announced that the former NFL star turned podcaster, who recently had a strong run in WWE NXT, will join the SmackDown commentary team beginning tonight with the post-WrestleMania 37 episode.

McAfee and Michael Cole will make up the new SmackDown announce team. This change comes after Corey Graves was sent to RAW this week, to work with Byron Saxton and newcomer Adnan Virk.

“For as long as I can remember WWE has been a company that I have admired, both for its incredible staying power of creating riveting entertainment and for its ability to connect people all over the globe,” McAfee said in a press release. “I’ve been fortunate to try a lot of cool professions but working for WWE was the one I looked forward to most. Now let’s go get it.”

Pat McAfee joins Friday Night SmackDown announce team

WWE today announced that Pat McAfee will debut as the new analyst for Friday Night SmackDown tonight at 8 pm ET live on FOX.

McAfee dropped the news on the WWE Universe with a huge social media announcement on Friday morning.

“For as long as I can remember WWE has been a company that I have admired, both for its incredible staying power of creating riveting entertainment and for its ability to connect people all over the globe,” said McAfee. “I’ve been fortunate to try a lot of cool professions but working for WWE was the one I looked forward to most. I am incredibly honored and grateful for the chance to give back to the business that has given me and many others so much and having the opportunity to sit at the same table that legends have graced is truly a dream come true. McAfee will be joined at ringside every week by Michael Cole, VP of WWE’s on air announce talent and voice of Friday Night SmackDown on FOX.

Tonight’s WWE SmackDown on FOX will feature the final build before next Friday’s special WrestleMania 37 go-home edition of the show.

Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal Moved To SmackDown, Participants Announced

Next Friday’s WWE SmackDown on FOX, the go-home show for WrestleMania 37, will be a special WrestleMania edition of the show.

Adam Pearce has announced that next Friday’s SmackDown, taped this week, will feature the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal and a Fatal 4 Way for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles currently held by Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler.

WWE has confirmed that this year’s Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal will take place on the SmackDown before WrestleMania 37.

The company announced the change on social media on Thursday. They also revealed which Superstars will be competing in the match.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there was no Andre Battle Royal last year. The last one took place at WrestleMania 35 in 2019 and was won by Braun Strowman.

The very first ATGMBR took place at WrestleMania 30, and was won by Cesaro. Big Show won in 2015, King Corbin in 2016, Mojo Rawley in 2017, and Matt Hardy in 2018.

It looks like there will not be a WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal this year. That match was also not held in 2020 due to the pandemic. The inaugural winner was Naomi at WrestleMania 34 in 2018. Carmella won in 2019.
