Skye Blue Announces She Will Return at AEW Beach Break: “I’m Back, and I’m a Violent Little Thing”

After months of speculation and silence, Skye Blue is officially on her way back to AEW — and she’s coming home to do it.

During Thursday’s episode of AEW Collision, Blue made a surprise appearance via video package following the hard-hitting bout between Kris Statlander and Willow Nightingale. The vignette, set to a moody, defiant tone, featured a montage of Blue dishing out punishment in the ring — from her signature Code Blue finisher to powerbombs, superkicks, and her Dragon Sleeper submission. It ended with a clear message and a chilling smile from the Chicago native herself:

“Next week, Beach Break. AEW is back in Chicago, and so am I. I’m back, and I’m a violent little thing.”

It was the kind of return tease that immediately grabbed attention — both for its timing and the edge in Blue’s voice. It also brings to an end a lengthy absence from in-ring action. Blue has been on the sidelines since suffering a broken ankle during a match against Hikaru Shida on the July 20, 2024 episode of Collision. The match had to be stopped due to the severity of the injury, and Blue has been rehabbing ever since.

Fans had been hopeful for a return earlier this year, especially after reports in February suggested she was close to being cleared. But AEW played it close to the vest, with no official timeline until now.

AEW Dynamite: Beach Break already promises to be a stacked card with the return of Zach Gowen and a potential showdown between him and Ricochet, and now Skye Blue’s homecoming adds another layer of anticipation. Given the tone of her promo, it looks like Blue is coming back with a much more aggressive edge — and she’s not here to just blend into the background.

Will this be a new chapter for Skye Blue as a major player in the AEW women’s division? Or will her return simply mark the beginning of another uphill battle? One thing’s for sure — next week in Chicago, all eyes will be on the “violent little thing.”

AEW’s Skye Blue Undergoing Surgery For Ankle Injury

AEW and Ring of Honor’s residency at Arlington, Texas’ eSports Stadium has so far been a success, with one notable exception; an injury to Skye Blue. The AEW star was wrestling Hikaru Shida last Saturday when a crossbody to the floor saw Shida land on Blue’s right leg, leading to the match being stopped. Days later, Blue’s boyfriend, AEW’s Kyle Fletcher, posted a photo of Blue back home, sporting a cast on her right foot, while reports confirmed Blue had suffered a broken ankle, though the severity of the break was unknown.

Alas, it appears the injury was severe enough that Blue will be forced to go under the knife. Taking to X yet again on Tuesday morning, Fletcher posted a photo of Blue sitting on a bench outside a hospital. Fletcher asked fans to “send prayers & cat toys.” For her part, Blue seemed to be in good spirits, making a funny face for the photo while holding an energy drink.

Neither Fletcher nor Blue have commented on the matter since then, leaving it uncertain whether Blue’s surgery was scheduled for today, or if it will take place at a later date. No timetable has emerged regarding how soon Blue could return to action following surgery, though recovery time from a broken ankle can vary from up to several months to as long as a year.

The injury comes at a poor time for Blue, who had been having arguably the best year of her career following a heel turn that saw her align with House of Black’s Julia Hart, herself out recovering from injury. Blue’s most notable match of the year came back in April, when she challenged Willow Nightingale for the AEW TBS Championship in a wild Manitoba Massacre match.

Backstage Update On Skye Blue’s Injury Following AEW Collision

AEW star Skye Blue has become the latest performer to be taken down by the injury bug following the most recent episode of “AEW Collision.” In the early stages of her match with Hikaru Shida, the former AEW Women’s World Champion hit a crossbody to the outside where Blue caught her. However, the landing didn’t go according to plan, and Blue, in a lot of visible pain, couldn’t continue the match.

Speaking on “Wrestling Observer Radio,” Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer confirmed that Blue suffered a broken ankle, with her recovery time still yet to be determined. Blue seemed to be doing well in the picture of her that Kyle Fletcher posted on social media, suggesting that the setback was less than initially feared. Before her injury, Blue was one of the busiest performers in the AEW women’s division, with only Toni Storm, Mariah May, and Deonna Purrazzo wrestling more matches than her in 2024.

Coincidentally, Alvarez noted that just a few weeks earlier, former AEW Women’s World Champion Riho also suffered a serious injury on “Collision” performing a crossbody, where she broke her wrist upon landing on her opponent Lady Frost. However, Meltzer noted that both instances were simply freak injuries that can happen at any point to anyone in the wrestling business given the nature of the performer’s work. Blue not only joins Riho on the women’s division’s injured list, but also the likes of Yuka Sakazaki, Jamie Hayter, and Julia Hart.

Legitimate Skye Blue Injury Causes AEW Collision Match To Be Stopped, Kyle Fletcher Post Update On Blue’s Injury

Hopefully AEW fans don’t believe in bad omens, because a legitimate injury to an up-and-coming competitor is an unfortunate way to kick off the promotion’s residency in Arlington, Texas, on Saturday night’s “AEW Collision.” In the second match of the evening, Skye Blue was set to take on former three-time AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida. Just a few minutes into the contest, however, Blue took a crossbody from Shida to the outside and didn’t get back up. After being evaluated by the ringside medical staff, the match was called off, with Shida being awarded the victory.

“Collision” went to commercial following the injury, with the action clearly expected to continue in picture-in-picture. Instead, viewers could see Shida trying to buy time for Blue to be examined, only to ultimately leave the ring and walk back up the ramp. By the time the commercial break ended, it was clear the match wouldn’t be continuing, and Shida was announced as the winner due to referee stoppage.

In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), AEW CEO Tony Khan said Blue suffered an ankle injury and was being evaluated.

Kyle Fletcher posted an update on Skye Blue’s condition.

“We got her home everyone, doctor Kyle on the clock. Yeeeeeeeefreakinhaaaaaaaaaw,” Fletcher wrote on X, alongside a photo of a middle-finger-flipping Blue. In addition to her white cowboy hat, Blue can also be seen wearing a heavily wrapped cast on her right ankle. There is no word on how long Blue will be out of action with her injury, but luckily, it appears she’ll have the added support of Fletcher along her recovery, however long it may be.
