Samoa Joe Suspended For Violation Of WWE Wellness Policy

WWE has announced Samoa Joe has been suspended for violating the WWE Wellness Policy.

WWE released a statement through their website which says:

WWE has suspended Nuufolau Seanoa (Samoa Joe) for 30 days effective Monday, February 24, for his first violation of the company’s talent wellness policy.

As we previously reported, Joe has been out of action as of late after suffering a head injury which took place during a commercial shoot this month. He also suffered a concussion on Raw a few weeks ago which forced him to sit on the sidelines.

Joe is the latest wrestler to be suspended for violating the company Wellness Policy after Andrade was suspended last month and Bobby Roode before that.

Samoa Joe Suffers Injury During Commercial Shoot

Pro Wrestling Sheet is reporting that Samoa Joe is not cleared to wrestle after suffering an injury while filming a commercial.

According to sources, the injury took place at a WWE commercial shoot last week when Joe hit his head during a bad table break as they were filming a stunt. While it’s unconfirmed at this point, sources say Joe could be out of action for a considerable amount of time.

As you’ll recall, Joe returned from a broken thumb at the end of last year. Upon his return, he joined Kevin Owens and the Viking Raiders in their feud against Seth Rollins and his disciples, but suffered a concussion last month which briefly took him out of action. He then wrestled last week on Raw, but was once again absent on Monday.

Samoa Joe Reportedly Injured On WWE RAW

During WWE RAW on Monday night, Samoa Joe teamed with Kevin Owens to face RAW Tag Team Champions Seth Rollins & Buddy Murphy for the titles.

At one point during the match, Joe hit a dive and grabbed the back of his head. He was then pulled out of the match and taken to the back. Owens ended up finishing the match by himself, however was ultimately pinned by Murphy.

PWInsider reports that the injury was 100% legitimate and WWE medical personnel made the decision to pull him from the bout. After Joe was removed, the rest of the talent were calling the match on the fly.

Joe was evaluated backstage after the match. Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that the belief is that Joe suffered a concussion, although that is not definite yet.

Joe had just returned to action last month after suffering a thumb injury last September.

WWE Tag Teams Splits Up, WWE Quietly Moves New RAW Superstars Back To SmackDown

WWE has apparently changed their minds on a few roster moves made during the 2019 Superstar Shakeup last week.

Andrade and Zelina Vega are now listed as SmackDown Superstars on the WWE website. They were moved to RAW in the Shakeup last Monday and Andrade picked up a non-title win over WWE Intercontinental Champion Finn Balor, who was sent to the blue brand the next night. Vega and Andrade had cut several promos on social media and video to warn the red brand that they were the new faces of the show.

It looks like Aleister Black could be going from RAW to SmackDown as well. Black, who is married to Vega, had been floating between shows since his call-up from WWE NXT, but he and partner Ricochet were confirmed for the red brand in the Shakeup last week. Black is now listed on the SmackDown roster on the official WWE website and his name has the SmackDown logo next to it. Ricochet is still listed for the RAW brand, so that tag team is apparently done.

Andrade and Charlotte Flair were one of the real-life WWE couples affected by the Superstar Shakeup, but that appears to have been rectified. Black and Vega were also kept together on the same brand, but the Black and Ricochet tag team appears to be done.

It will be interesting to see if the Andrade, Vega and Black roster changes are addressed on tonight’s RAW episode.

As we’ve noted, it’s believed that WWE United States Champion Samoa Joe will join the red brand on tonight’s show. Joe had been scheduled to bring the title to RAW on last week’s Shakeup edition of RAW but he was very sick, so sick that his segment was pulled from the show. WWE did not quietly announce Joe’s roster change as they did with other Superstars because they were saving it for tonight as they have an angle planned.

UPDATE:

Cesaro has been moved to RAW. This means The Bar has split up as Sheamus appears to be staying on SmackDown Live

UPDATE: 4/23/19

It was revealed on 4/23/19 edition of SmackDown Live that, Jinder Mahal and the Singh Brothers has been moved to SmackDown Live.

Backstage Notes On Samoa Joe Joining The WWE RAW Roster This Coming Monday (4/22)

An angle is planned for Monday’s WWE RAW that will see WWE United States Champion Samoa Joe officially join the red brand roster, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio.

We noted before that Joe was at this week’s RAW, but his segment was removed from the show because he was very sick. If Joe is able to perform on Monday, they will do the angle. It’s also been reported that Joe’s first RAW feud will be a continuation of the recent storyline he started with Braun Strowman. There’s no word yet on if Strowman will be involved in Monday’s angle, but it’s likely. WWE quietly announced several Superstar Shakeup roster changes after Tuesday’s SmackDown went off the air, but they saved the Joe move because of the angle that is planned for RAW.

On a related note, PWInsider reports that Joe is scheduled to be at Monday’s RAW from the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa, but he is not scheduled for Tuesday’s SmackDown at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Samoa Joe is currently out of action with another injury, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

There’s no word yet on details of the undisclosed injury but Joe has not been cleared to compete. Joe was set to challenge WWE Champion AJ Styles at the Supershow live events last weekend but he was not there.

Joe’s last match came on the October 9 SmackDown episode, a World Cup qualifier loss to Jeff Hardy. He lost to WWE Champion AJ Styles a few days before that at Super Show-Down in Australia but he spent most of September and now October out of the ring.

In the match with AJ at Super Show-Down Joe worked a injury angle – Joe went for a Muscle Buster but legs gave out and AJ won the match by Joe tapping out to the Calf Crusher. Joe lost his World Cup qualifier match to Jeff Hardy due to referee stoppage when Joe couldn’t stand on his feet.

For what it’s worth, Joe made the following cryptic tweet back on October 17:

RAW General Manager Kurt Angle revealed on Twitter that Samoa Joe suffered an injury in the match with Rhyno on last night’s RAW, causing him to be pulled from WWE’s Mixed Match Challenge.

The injury to Joe is legitimate and not a part of the storylines. No word yet on when he will be back in action but he’s suffering from a right foot injury and will be undergoing an MRI. As noted, Joe announced on RAW that he will be in the 30-man Royal Rumble match later this month.

“During his match, [Samoa Joe] felt a pop at the bottom of his [right] foot,” said WWE Senior Ringside Physician Dr. Chris Amann. “We took a look and believe he has a plantar fascia rupture, which is a thick tissue rupture under the foot. We will get an MRI to confirm. Treatment includes a period of immobilization in a boot with crutches and platelet rich plasma injections.”

Samoa Joe Cuts Promo After Raw, Asks Why WWE Didn’t Care About His Injury (VIDEO)

samoa joe return promo video wwe documentary

Many WWE Superstars get the documentary treatment to track their return from injury … but following Raw this week, Samoa Joe is asking why he wasn’t awarded that luxury.

For those whose missed it, Joe made his expected return from injury tonight and was victorious in a match against Apollo Crews. He also choked out Titus O’Neil.

While speaking with Mike Rome after the show, the Samoan Submission Machine said he’s not putting people on notice because everyone already knows how tough he is. He then complained about the lack of hype over his comeback.
