Edge Announces WWE Royal Rumble Ring Return

WWE Hall of Famer Edge will be making his ring return at the upcoming Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

Last night’s Rumble go-home edition of RAW saw Edge deliver a pre-recorded promo where he announced that he will be returning to action in the 30-Man Royal Rumble Match next Sunday.

There are now 14 open spots for the 30-Man Royal Rumble Match. Edge joins Daniel Bryan, WWE United States Champion Bobby Lashley, AJ Styles, Randy Orton, Otis, The Miz, Jey Uso, Cesaro, Jeff Hardy, Shinsuke Nakamura, Sami Zayn, SmackDown Tag Team Champion Dolph Ziggler, WWE Intercontinental Champion Big E, Sheamus, and John Morrison as confirmed entrants.

The Rated R Superstar has been out of action since suffering a torn triceps during the loss to Randy Orton at the 2020 WWE Backlash pay-per-view last June. Edge came out of retirement at the 2020 Royal Rumble, and then made his in-ring return to singles action at WrestleMania 36, where he defeated Orton in a Last Man Standing match.

The 2021 Royal Rumble pay-per-view will take place on January 31 from Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, FL

WWE RAW Preview 1/18/21

Tonight’s WWE RAW will feature more build for the upcoming Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

WWE has announced that Alexa Bliss will return to action on tonight’s RAW, her first match since defeating Nikki Cross on the November 23 RAW. She will be facing the RAW Women’s Champion and one-half of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions tonight – Asuka.

RAW will also see Randy Orton react to last week’s fireball attack by Bliss. WWE announced a storyline injury update last week, noting that Orton suffered minor burns to the face.

WWE has not announced any other happenings for tonight’s show, but we know that WWE Champion Drew McIntyre will not be appearing live in person due to his COVID-19 diagnosis. There’s no word on when WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg will appear again to promote the Royal Rumble match with McIntyre.

WWE RAW Preview 1/11/21

Tonight’s WWE RAW will feature more on the Road to the 2021 Royal Rumble, live from Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, FL.

WWE is advertising that tonight’s RAW will be a “huge night” for WWE Champion Drew McIntyre. McIntyre will face Randy Orton in a non-title singles match, and they are teasing a possible appearance by WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg to follow up on last week’s return. McIntyre has not officially answered Goldberg’s challenge for a title match at The Rumble.

It’s believed that more Royal Rumble Match participants will be confirmed on tonight’s RAW as well.

Several Advertised Stars Did Not Appear For WWE Legends Night, Carlito Reacts

Several stars did not appear for last night’s Legends Night edition of WWE RAW, despite being advertised ahead of time.

The WWE Hall of Famers and Legends who did appear for various cameos during the show, and on the stage to watch WWE Champion Drew McIntyre retain over Keith Lee in the main event, were Irwin R. Schyster (IRS), Melina, Jeff Jarrett, Jimmy Hart, Molly Holly, Booker T, Alicia Fox, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Torrie Wilson, Big Show, Mickie James, Mark Henry, Ron Simmons, Teddy Long, Sgt. Slaughter, and Tatanka.

Stars who were advertised but did not appear were Beth Phoenix, Candice Michelle, Carlito, Eve Torres, Hillbilly Jim, Ivory, Jacqueline, Kurt Angle, and Michael “PS” Hayes.

Carlito was one of the most anticipated returns for Legends Night and WWE had previously confirmed his appearance on social media and their website. There’s no word yet on why he never appeared but as seen in the tweet below, he tweeted a shrug GIF in response to the show:

Update

According to Wrestling Inc., Carlito was never officially booked for the show at all. WWE sent feelers out to a variety of talents, including Carlito, and someone internally in WWE apparently simply jumped the gun announcing his appearance. This was not an issue of travel problems or him being held up due to COVID-19 precautions.

We’re told there is no bad blood over the errant announcement since it appears to have just been a communication error.

Carlito’s appearance on RAW would have been his first RAW appearance in over ten years. His last appearance for WWE was as part of Edge & Christian’s Show That Totally Reeks Of Awesomeness on the WWE Network back in 2016.

Goldberg Issued Challenge To WWE Champion Drew McIntyre On RAW For Title Match At Royal Rumble

Goldberg has his sights set on the gold, and he made his intentions clear during a tense confrontation with WWE Champion Drew McIntyre.

It all went down on this week’s edition of Raw immediately following the main event between Keith Lee and Drew McIntyre.

Monday night was a special one. It was “Legends Night” after all, and there were plenty of legends on the show, including Hulk Hogan, Mark Henry, Big Show, I.R.S., Mickie James, Torie Wilson and others. But there was one legend who waited until the closing moments of the show to make his presence known.

After McIntyre’s hard fought victory over a valiant Keith Lee, Goldberg claimed that McIntyre doesn’t have any respect for legends. He then demanded a title match with McIntyre at the upcoming Royal Rumble event. Drew’s response was less than enthusiastic.

“Fighting you would be like fighting my own dad,” the champ said … and then things got out of hand.

The WWE Hall of Famer shoved McIntyre to the ground. Drew got back on his feet and the pair squared off as the show went off the air.

Check out the tense confrontation below.
