aleister black injured groin surgery takeover brooklyn

Pro Wrestling Sheet has confirmed Aleister Black recently went under the knife after injuring his groin at a live event and it’s possible he’ll miss NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn.

The Wrestling Observer first reported Aleister’s injury occurred at a live event in Las Vegas over the weekend and described the situation as “quite serious.”

Sources tell us Black underwent surgery this week to repair the torn groin and he’s definitely not confirmed at this point for TakeOver: Brooklyn on August 18.

Recovery time for this sort of procedure is typically three weeks or longer.

We’ll keep you updated if any additional information is made public by WWE.

NXT Pays Tribute To Nikolai Volkoff, Brian Christopher With 10-Bell Salute (VIDEO)

WWE started the process Sunday of honoring two of its stars who passed away — Hall of Famer Nikolai Volkoff and Brian Christopher.

At Sunday’s NXT show in Phoenix, both men were recognized before the show with a ten bell salute. The crowd stood in absolute silence during the tolls.

During the NXT ceremony, Volkoff was described as one of the greatest villains in the history of sports entertainment. Throughout most of his WWE run, Volkoff was a heat magnet — often singing the national anthem of the Soviet Union to rile up crowds. He participated in the original Wrestlemania tagging with the Iron Sheik under the management of Freddie Blassie.

Volkoff’s career spanned more than 30 years.  Even after his retirement in the mid-90s, he’d make the occasional one-off appearance.  He was inducted into WWE’s Hall of Fame in 2005.

Here’s a look at how NXT paid tribute to the pair of performers.

keith lee nxt ring debut tv tapings

Recent WWE signee Keith Lee made his NXT in-ring debut at Wednesday night’s television tapings using his “limitless” and “bask in my glory” catchphrases.

Lee arrived at the Performance Center in Orlando Tuesday as part of the latest class. Clearly, WWE officials think highly of him — putting him in a ring just days later.

According those in attendance, Lee defeated Marcel Barthel with a jackhammer-style finish.

Lee debuted on NXT television sitting in the front row at NXT Takeover: Chicago.  He previously wrestled a match at Axxess before Wrestlemania 34 taking on Kassius Ohno. He was reported to have signed with WWE in the weeks that followed.

It’s unclear if his match will air on NXT broadcasts.

News On Saturday Night’s Main Event And NXT Being A Part Of WWE – FOX Deal

Image result for wwe and fox deal

With WWE officially announcing their new television deal with FOX, there has been a lot of speculation about other programming airing on the network, or their sister channel, FS1. There was a report that Saturday Night’s Main Event, which actually aired twice on FOX in 1992, might return to the network and that an announcement will come later this year or in early 2019. The report added that FOX has also agreed in principle to air NXT on FS1, although the contract hasn’t been signed yet.

On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that while it’s possible, he was told by people in WWE and FOX that the story of adding Saturday Night’s Main Event is not true. He said that sources on both sides were told that there would not be any “added wrestling programming.”

As far as NXT moving to FS1, Meltzer once again said that while it’s always possible, he was told that there “was no chance.”

“I mean it’s possible,” Meltzer said. “I could only ask, and people that I’ve asked said that there’s no announcements coming [and] there’s nothing new. I mean, is it possible a year from now? Absolutely. Does it make sense? It actually does. If it makes sense, I could see it happening, but I was told not right now.”

During a 30 minute media call last week discussing the new deal, WWE Co-President Michelle Wilson said that they are in talks with FOX about adding additional programming on both FOX Broadcast and FS1, but seemed to suggest that it would not be in-ring content, saying that the programming discussed “would highlight other activities in WWE.” When FOX met with WWE regarding a deal in May, owner Rupert Murdoch had reportedly offered WWE a weekly studio show on FS1.
