Backstage Details Emerge on R-Truth’s Shocking WWE Return at Money in the Bank 2025

R-Truth’s unexpected return to WWE at Money in the Bank 2025 sent shockwaves through the wrestling world—not just because of his surprise appearance, but because of the swirling confusion about whether his recent WWE release was ever real to begin with. Now, new backstage details are shedding light on the truth behind Truth’s return.

According to Fightful Select, Ron “R-Truth” Killings was legitimately released by WWE prior to MITB, despite speculation that the whole situation was a storyline. The company reportedly faced significant backlash from fans and internal talent alike over the decision to cut the beloved veteran. That wave of support may have played a role in WWE reaching back out to Truth to gauge his interest in returning.

Initially, Killings was not responsive to WWE’s offers. But things changed when WWE President Nick Khan personally reached out, leading to a quick turnaround. In fact, sources say the deal to bring Truth back together came together within a week of the pay-per-view. Although Paul “Triple H” Levesque dropped some cryptic comments at the post-show press conference that hinted at the situation being a work, Fightful reports that’s not the case at all.

Backstage, the reaction to R-Truth’s return was overwhelmingly positive. Several sources described the locker room as “ecstatic” to see him back, viewing the move as a morale boost amid what had been a turbulent few weeks. The sentiment among both talent and fans was clear: Truth is not just a comedic staple—he’s a locker room favorite and respected veteran.

As for what’s next, those close to Killings say he’s planning one final serious run before he officially hangs up his boots. Given how long he’s entertained audiences with both comedy and underrated in-ring work, fans can expect a memorable sendoff—possibly even with gold in sight.

With WWE’s recent track record of blending reality and fiction, the Truth saga initially felt like another clever storyline. But according to multiple insiders, this was a rare case of a real-world misstep being corrected in real time, with the added bonus of creating a jaw-dropping return moment in the process.

WWE Money in the Bank 2025 Results: Naomi and Rollins Climb the Ladder to Destiny, R-Truth Shocks the World

Naomi Soars, Becomes Ms. Money in the Bank

Naomi def. Giulia, Roxanne Perez, Stephanie Vaquer, Alexa Bliss & Rhea Ripley
— Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match

The women’s ladder match delivered from the opening bell, blending athletic chaos with creative destruction. Naomi, returning to her high-flying roots, was a standout — but she had to survive brutal offense from Ripley, technical sequences from Vaquer, and twin Canadian Destroyers from Bliss and Vaquer atop two different ladders.

At one point, Ripley was buried under a mountain of ladders on the outside as Perez and Giulia teamed up. Vaquer seemed close to victory after delivering the Devil’s Kiss to Ripley and nearly unhooking the briefcase, but Perez cut her off. The final stretch saw Naomi shove Bliss and Ripley off the central ladder before ascending to claim the briefcase — becoming the new Ms. Money in the Bank in a major momentum boost for the former champion.

Dominik Retains in a Lucha Showdown

Dominik Mysterio (c) def. Octagón Jr.
— Intercontinental Championship

Fresh off his Worlds Collide appearance, Octagón Jr. got the full WWE PPV spotlight — and nearly made the most of it. The masked AAA standout dazzled with his aerial arsenal, including multiple Tornillos and an Asai moonsault.

But Dirty Dom dug deep into the Guerrero playbook, hitting the Three Amigos and a well-placed 619. A picture-perfect Frog Splash sealed the deal as Mysterio retained in one of his strongest solo performances to date — despite Liv Morgan looking less than impressed at ringside.

Big Time Becks Makes History

Becky Lynch def. Lyra Valkyria (c)
— Women’s Intercontinental Championship

Lynch and Valkyria delivered a rugged, emotional brawl in their long-brewing rematch. Becky used every trick in her veteran playbook, but Valkyria had plenty of counters, including a superplex and a leg drop off the announce desk.

Late-match near-falls and a Dis-Arm-Her scare had the crowd on edge. Ultimately, Lynch capitalized on a mistake, countering Valkyria’s top rope offense into a Manhandle Slam and securing the three count to win her first Women’s IC title.

Post-match, Lynch demanded respect — literally — by forcing Valkyria to raise her hand. Valkyria obliged… then dropped her with a suplex and Night Wing to remind her that the rivalry is far from over.

Rollins Climbs the Ladder, But the Bloodline Saga Steals the Spotlight

Seth Rollins def. Penta, El Grande Americano, Andrade, LA Knight & Solo Sikoa
— Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match

The men’s MITB match was pure mayhem. Ladders flew, alliances crumbled, and chaos reigned. Penta and Andrade nearly stole the show with a Canadian Destroyer through a ladder bridge, while El Grande Americano unleashed German suplexes and even an Ankle Lock from atop a ladder.

Interference added more drama, as Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed stormed in, only to be confronted by Jacob Fatu and JC Mateo. Fatu turned the tide, laying out Sikoa with a moonsault and a chokeslam through a ladder.

With the path finally clear, Rollins climbed the final rungs, survived a last-minute challenge from Knight and Andrade, and unhooked the briefcase to become Mr. Money in the Bank once again — now aligned with Paul Heyman and looking more dangerous than ever.

Truth Bomb: Cody & Jey Defeat Cena & Paul Amid Wild Finish

Cody Rhodes & Jey Uso def. John Cena & Logan Paul

In the night’s main event, egos and alliances collided. Cena and Paul showed tension from the jump, tagging themselves in and out and one-upping each other. Rhodes and Uso took full advantage, with Jey battling valiantly until Rhodes got the hot tag and cleared house.

Paul and Cena unraveled further after a miscue, and just as Cena looked to steal the win by using the Undisputed WWE Championship as a weapon, a masked figure stormed the ring.

It was R-Truth, returning in shocking fashion to lay out Cena with the very title he tried to use, leading to Cody hitting Cross-Rhodes for the pin. After the bell, Rhodes and Jey embraced, standing tall together — united, for now.

Quick Hits:

  • Naomi and Rollins are now your 2025 MITB winners — and both look poised to strike gold at any time.
  • Becky Lynch made history, and Lyra Valkyria isn’t taking the loss lightly.
  • Dominik Mysterio survived a lucha masterclass, but will his luck run out soon?
  • R-Truth’s return might have derailed Cena’s golden ambitions for good — or just sparked something even bigger.

Triple H Comments On Damian Priest Kickout Botch At WWE Money In The Bank

While Damian Priest emerged with his WWE World Heavyweight Championship still in hand after WWE Money in the Bank, he also emerged to viral videos highlighting an in-ring mistake of his. The mistake in reference occurred when Seth Rollins laid out Priest with a Falcon Arrow, to which Priest was meant to kick out of. As the referee’s hand inched closer to the three count, though, Priest’s shoulder remained firmly planted on the mat. Nevertheless, the referee ruled that Priest had kicked out of the pinfall attempt. At the Money in the Bank post-show press conference, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque addressed the confusing spot.

“Human beings in a ring, mistakes happen, things happen. It is what it is,” Levesque said. “It’s funny, for me, now looking at that, if that was something I was involved in as a talent, I don’t care how good the rest of it was, that would be all I would think about. To me, it’s a shame that that’s all people will talk about, and that’s all people will hit Damian Priest with, while he had a phenomenal performance tonight. But a bunch of people will attack that, criticize that, comment on that.”

Knowing that the negative aspects of a match can sometimes eclipse the positive, Levesque further wishes he could have powered off Priest’s phone to allow him the proper space and time to reflect on all the shining moments in his WWE World Heavyweight Championship reign. “He has stepped up to a place where when you see him as a performer now, I feel like I’m watching a champion come out. I feel like I’m watching a top tier guy,” Levesque said.

Despite the questions surrounding Priest’s kickout, or lack thereof, Levesque asserts that the referee’s decision stands, and Priest remains the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Looking ahead, Priest now turns his attention to WWE SummerSlam, where he is slated to defend his title against the 2024 King of the Ring, GUNTHER.

John Cena Announces Retirement Tour (Last Time Is Now), 2025 Will Be Last Year As A Wrestler

16-time WWE Champion John Cena made a surprise appearance at Money in the Bank, confirming rumors from earlier in the day, announcing that his time for retirement was now, sending the Toronto crowd into a frenzy wrought with “no” chants. Carrying a towel that slightly altered his trademark “My Time Is Now” catchphrase to say “The Last Time Is Now,” Cena’s shirt, which read, “John Cena Farewell Tour,” hinted at what he would soon make clear — that this wasn’t an imminent goodbye but seemingly a slow progression that would include plenty of lasts.

After praising Canadian WWE fans for being some of the most dedicated in the world, “The Greatest of All Time” made it clear that he wanted to be there when WWE makes history, debuting “Raw” on Netflix, but also that the 2025 Royal Rumble would be his last. He then stated the same for Elimination Chamber, as well as WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas. While it initially seemed as though Cena would hang up his wrestling sneakers for good after WrestleMania, he clarified at the post-show press conference that his retirement tour will take place from January to December 2025, with approximately 30-40 matches planned. He also said that even after he retires from in-ring competition, he will still be part of WWE “in some capacity for an extended time to come.”

Personifying what remains of his competitive spirit, Cena said, “If you’re a WWE superstar, if you want some, hurry up and come get some,” leaving the fans in Toronto and at home all over the world to wonder about a series of potential dream matches they can hope to see become a reality as Cena’s swan song gets underway.

Backstage Reason For WWE Splitting Up Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler

Saturday’s WWE Money in the Bank event featured a number of surprises and one of those included Shayna Baszler turning on Ronda Rousey in the midst of their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship defense. As a result, Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez were able to regain the gold, and it appears Baszler and Rousey are on track for a singles clash.

During the latest episode of “Wrestling Observer Radio,” Dave Meltzer noted that this was always the plan, however, Rousey’s arm injury from before WrestleMania 39 is what screwed up the timeline. He claimed that Rousey has a “hard out” for her next hiatus or possible departure, which will occur long before WrestleMania 40 rolls around.

“The point is that whatever it is they’re planning to do, they want to do a feud,” Meltzer explained. “The whole tag team was to set up Ronda and Shayna doing a feud. Ronda wanted to do this feud with Shayna, she got what she wanted. She’s always wanted to do it because Shayna’s the one who got her into pro wrestling… So to pay her back, they’re going to do a program. I don’t know if it’s one match, I don’t know if it’s two or three, but based on whenever that out is, they had to get it done now.”

Meltzer reiterated that prior to Rousey’s injury, there were plans for them to have a longer title reign that would’ve allowed fans to see the cracks forming before the inevitable split. As of this writing, it remains to be seen when Rousey vs. Baszler will take place. WWE SummerSlam will be the next premium live event in Detroit on August 5.
