Mick Foley Cleared For Hip Replacement Surgery

WWE Hall of Famer and RAW General Manager Mick Foley posted the following on Facebook on Wednesday, announcing that he has finally been cleared to eventually undergo hip replacement surgery.

“I am cleared for hip surgery! It OK couple months, but I was able to get my health insurance back, and by getting my right hip replaced whenever I have a break in my schedule. The bad news is that a hip replacement will not allow me to fly for about six weeks, due to potential blood clotting issues – which can be fatal. Really nothing to play around with. The good news is that the GM position doesn’t offer much in the way of long-term job security – so that break might present itself as a natural course of events.

It turns out that dropping elbows off of ring aprons was not particularly good for my skeletal structure. While I defied The expectations of some wrestlers who predicted I would be in a wheelchair by the time I was 40, I certainly was having trouble getting around by the time I hit 50. While losing 100 pounds, and practicing DDP Yoga have been game-changers that have allowed me the opportunity to take on this job with all the travel it involves, I’m still having a difficult time getting around. Did not realize how noticeable my limping was until I watched these past Holy Foley episodes. Can you remember what the Godfather told us about limping, right? It ain’t easy!

Thank you for all your well-wishes. They are much appreciated. I have talked to several people who have had this operation, and they say it is like night and day. With one operation, long-term pain gives way to a much better quality of life. Hopefully that will be the case for me.
I will be keeping all of my scheduled bookings, including my appearance FEBRUARY 17-19 at the #PENSACON in #PENSACOLA.”

Mick Foley Needs Hip Surgery But Doesn’t Have Health Insurance, Talks WWE Contract Status, More

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley took to Facebook today to address reports of a possible hip surgery. Foley says he does need the $60,000 operation but he doesn’t have health insurance after having his coverage dropped this year.

The RAW General Manager reveals that he is on a handshake deal with WWE, besides the Legends deal which is for merchandise, and confirms he missed Monday’s RAW. You can read his full post below:

ABOUT THAT HIP OPERATIONI guess I should’ve said something when I started getting prayers and well wishes from friends and colleagues alike – including some of the biggest names in the business. I have definitely mentioned that I needed a hip replacement, definitely mentioned that I intended to get one sometime early in 2017, but never actually set a date. I have this little tiny problem in that I don’t actually have health insurance.

I had health insurance for 26 years, but the last four years have been tough – with companies sending out letters telling me they will no longer be insuring families, and that I needed to find alternate insurance. By 2016 health insurance was particularly confusing, and after missing one payment, I found myself no longer insured. I am doing my best to be insured in 2017, but nothing is guaranteed, and I have no idea how this new insurance company will feel about replacing a hip that clearly should’ve been replaced many years ago.

For those wondering why the general manager of Raw needs to procure his own health insurance: well, I’m on a handshake deal. I do the job as long as I enjoy it and feel like I am making a difference, and I do it as long as WWE is happy with me and thinks I’m the best person for the role. No contract involved at all, except for the legends deal, which is strictly about merchandise. For those wondering why I just don’t pay out-of-pocket, well it’s a $60,000 operation, and I am going to look at some other options before I shell out 60K for an operation. Maybe I will concentrate on landing a couple of TV or film roles and get the far superior AFTRA insurance to take care of the operation. I probably should not be talking about it at all – but the word is out there, and I feel like I owe people an explanation.

Luckily, I am used to the constant pain – and it’s not like I wasn’t warned by almost every guy in the wrestling business that the moves I was doing as a younger man were going to come back to haunt me. Well, they’re haunting me! The weight-loss has helped considerably; without it, and the DDP yoga, I don’t believe I could even get through airports. But the constant travel means constant pain. I love being the Raw GM, and I will miss it when it’s gone. But my quality of life will probably improve when Stephanie and WWE decide to go in a new direction.

Thank you for your prayers and concern. I am coming off an amazing December, during which I created some memories that I know I will hold onto for a lifetime. I know a lot of people don’t get my whole Santa thing. I can only tell you that when that red suit goes on, the very best part of me comes out, and I do some things I am very proud of each December. I had wanted most of December off, but I had made a commitment to the Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital, and it meant a lot to me to fulfill that commitment. Then Mr. McMahon said something to me about a shark cage in question with Chris Jericho suspended above it, and I knew I had to be at that Raw. I missed Monday’s raw. I should be back for almost every episode until that moment comes when/if the company decides to go in a different direction. If they do, I will simply be grateful for every single day I had a chance to go out and try to make a difference. Some nights I was more successful than others. But deep down I think the superstars in the back know I was doing my best to look out for them – and they know that has not always the case when it comes to the people who fill these roles.

With or without a new hip I’m going to lead a good life. The medical sciences out there to help me lead a life with far less pain. I hope that I am given the opportunity to take advantage of the new technology. Maybe some enterprising orthopedic specialist can think outside the box and look at me as a potential poster-boy for their services. If The Rock can sell tires, then I have to believe I can sell hip replacements.

Have a nice day.

Mick Foley Undergoing Surgery – Taking Time Off

Dave Meltzer reported on last night’s episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that RAW General Manager will be undergoing hip replacement surgery. He noted that Foley stayed last week to do the Sami Zayn angle on RAW and give Sami the rub. He said that Foley may be back on the January 2nd episode of RAW, but will be gone again regardless to recover from the surgery.

Update:

Meltzer added on last night’s episode that Foley was originally supposed to have this weekend off, but was called to do the appearance at WWE Roadblock last night. Foley was said to be “in tremendous pain” and will be getting the hip replacement surgery relatively soon. He requested time off because it is difficult for him to do all the traveling with the pain that he’s in.

More From Mick Foley On WWE Hell In A Cell Main Event

As noted, RAW General Manager Mick Foley edited his Facebook announcement on Charlotte vs. RAW Women’s Champion Sasha Banks being the main event of the October 30th Hell In a Cell pay-per-view, now saying the match will be “a main event” and that he doesn’t know what the official main event will be yet. Foley elaborated in the comments section of the Facebook post, seen here:

“The match order for #HIAC Will probably not be finalized until hours before the actual show, so each member of the WWE Universe can decide for themselves what their main event is. Regardless of where the women’s match is placed on the card, both Sasha and Charlotte should absolutely feel like they are the main event – as should Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins. It’s a competitive business, and that competitive spirit should bring out the best in everyone on October 30th.”

CHILLS
Forget for a moment about Stephanie McMahon’s jumping high-five or my awkward attempt to hug the #RAW Comissioner. The biggest moment of the night for us came when the #WWE cameras were off, and Stephanie and I just looked at the #HIAC poster, realizing that for #WomensWrestling, history is upon us – as Sasha Banks and Charlotte will main event the #HIAC PPV. I am so happy for Sasha, for Charlotte, for all the women who paved the way, and all those who aspire to follow in their footsteps. It is no exaggeration to say that looking at that poster gave me chills…and they were multiplying.

We mentioned a couple of weeks ago that WWE Hall of Famer and former WWE and WCW Champion Kevin Nash was going to donate his brain to help CTE research after his death and Rob Van Dam will also donate his brain. Now, Mick Foley and Jeff Hardy have also joined in on the cause.

In an interview that WrestlingINC.com  published earlier, former WWE and TNA world champion Jeff Hardy said that he’s only aware of about two or three concussions that he’s had, but still wants to donate his brain to the research cause.

In addition, WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley mentioned on Twitter that he’s also donating his brain, and that former WWE Superstar Chris Nowinski talked him into doing it. Nowinski had his career ended due to concussions over ten years ago.

Mick Foley Returning To RAW Soon For WrestleMania 32 Angle

Source: WrestlingINC

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley is scheduled to return to RAW in the next few weeks for a WrestleMania 32 angle. As of Tuesday, Foley was not booked for this Monday’s RAW from Chicago so he could appear on the March 14th show from Pittsburgh, the March 21st show from Philadelphia or the March 28th go-home show in Brooklyn but it sounds like it will be either Pittsburgh or Philly.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported last week that Foley was booked to have some sort of role at WrestleMania. Speculation is that the RAW appearance will be used to set up a match that he has a non-wrestling role with.
