AEW/ROH’s Leila Grey Undergoes Successful Knee Surgery, Begins Road to Recovery

AEW/ROH talent Leila Grey has officially taken the next step in her recovery journey after confirming she recently underwent knee surgery.

Grey shared the update through her Instagram Stories, revealing that the procedure went smoothly following the torn ACL she suffered late last year. She told fans she’s already back home and preparing to start rehabilitation immediately.

“Hey guys. I finally had my knee surgery yesterday. Everything went well. I’m home recovering and starting therapy tomorrow. Thank you all for the support during this time,” Grey wrote.

The injury dates back to the December 6 episode of AEW Collision, where Grey challenged Mercedes Moné for the TBS Championship. The match was cut short after it became clear something was wrong, with Moné securing the win shortly after. Grey later explained the moment things went south, noting that she felt a pop in her knee after an awkward step while being driven into the corner. A second pop followed minutes later during a knee strike, confirming the severity of the situation.

Despite the setback, Grey didn’t immediately go under the knife. She previously shared that limited mobility in her knee delayed the surgery process into early 2025. Even more impressive, she pushed through the injury to compete in the World Beauty Fitness & Fashion competition just one week after the match.

Wearing a decorated knee brace, Grey managed to capture first place in the Diva Fitness Model 35+ category—an achievement that turned heads given the circumstances. She even brushed off any doubts about competing while injured, making it clear she wasn’t about to back down.

Now with surgery behind her, Grey’s focus shifts fully to recovery and rehab. There’s no timetable yet for her return to AEW action, but if her resilience so far is any indication, she’ll be one to watch once she’s cleared to step back into the ring.

AEW/ROH Star Leila Grey Reveals She Has Torn ACL

AEW/ROH talent Leila Grey has confirmed that her recent match on AEW Collision came with a serious setback behind the scenes.

Grey revealed on X that she suffered a torn ACL during her TBS Championship match against Mercedes Moné on the December 6 episode of the show. The injury reportedly happened when Grey delivered a knee strike in the corner. Immediately after the move, she could be seen grabbing her knee, and moments later Moné locked in the Statement Maker to secure the title retention.

While the finish now makes more sense in hindsight, what’s impressive is what Grey managed to accomplish after the injury. Despite dealing with the torn ACL, she went on to compete in the WBFF Pro Fitness event, where she finished first place — all while wearing a knee brace.

Grey also shared that surgery will be required, and she expects to be sidelined for a significant amount of time as she recovers. It’s an unfortunate development for the rising AEW star, especially after getting a high-profile championship opportunity, but her toughness and determination have clearly not gone unnoticed.

There’s no timetable yet for Grey’s return, but AEW fans will undoubtedly be wishing her a smooth surgery and a strong comeback when she’s cleared to get back in the ring.
