Tom Lawlor Reveals He’ll Need Hip Replacement Surgery Due to Severe Damage

MLW star “Filthy” Tom Lawlor has opened up about some serious health challenges he’s currently facing, confirming that he’ll soon undergo hip replacement surgery. The MMA fighter-turned-pro wrestler shared the news during a recent appearance on Wrestling Observer Live, revealing the extent of the damage to his left hip — and it’s no minor issue.

According to Lawlor, after undergoing scans, a medical professional gave him a blunt but eye-opening assessment. “If you walked into a nursing home right now, there are 90-year-old women who would rightfully have pity upon the shape that your left hip is in,” he was told. The left side is reportedly riddled with bone spurs so severe they’ve pushed the hip out of its socket. While the right hip isn’t in perfect shape either, the left is clearly the major concern.

This isn’t the first time Lawlor has hinted at serious physical wear and tear. Just last month, he mentioned the possibility of needing back surgery down the line — further underscoring the toll that years of combat sports have taken on his body.

Lawlor has competed across a range of promotions including NJPW, MLW, and the independent circuit, and has never been shy about throwing himself fully into the physical demands of the ring. While there’s no word yet on a timeline for his surgery or recovery, it’s clear that Lawlor is preparing for a major step toward long-term health — even if it means stepping away from in-ring action for the foreseeable future.

We’ll keep you updated on Lawlor’s status as more details emerge. Here’s hoping “Filthy” Tom gets the treatment he needs and makes a full recovery.

Tom Lawlor Not Done With MLW After All Signs, Signs Multi-Year Deal

“Filthy” Tom Lawlor isn’t done with MLW after all. We previously reported that Lawlor was finishing up with MLW.

Court Bauer, MLW CEO and booker, wasn’t lying when he stated the world of MLW never stops. In a press release, it was announced that the company has agreed to a multi-year, exclusive agreement with Tom Lawlor.

“After months and weeks of trying to figure out the next step in my career, I have come to the conclusion that indeed there is no place like home, and no where that I would rather continue to swing for the fences than in Major League Wrestling,” said Tom Lawlor. “I’m happy to announce that myself and management have come to terms that will keep me in the ring with the top talent, wrestlers, and fighters under the MLW banner.

“While I was able to reach the peak of the mountain and become world champion in the past, I have since realized that there are entire new ranges for me to conquer and I look forward to getting to the summit alongside the fans and supporters of MLW. Stay filthy!”

A former member of the UFC roster, Lawlor joined MLW in 2017 and became a fan favorite, winning the MLW World Heavyweight Title earlier this year.

“We went into extra innings to get this done,” said Bauer. “Tom’s talent, passion and leadership are second to none. We’re all beyond pleased to have his continued presence in MLW for years to come.”

Lawlor is scheduled to compete at the Opera Cup inside the Melrose Ballroom in New York City on December 5th. An opponent has not been announced yet.

Former MLW World Heavyweight Champion “Filthy” Tom Lawlor is wrapping up with MLW. Wrestling Inc. has confirmed that Lawlor’s final appearance for the promotion will be on December 5th for the MLW Opera Cup event.

Lawlor had signed with MLW in October of 2017, and won the company’s first Battle Riot event in 2018. He won the MLW World Heavyweight Championship this past February before losing it to Jacob Fatu in July.

“I want to thank @FilthyTomLawlor for his two years with @MLW. Tom was a day zero guy that helped relaunch the league in October 2017,” Bauer wrote. “I wish him continued success with the next chapter of his career. First class dude who despite being filthy is somehow all class at the same time.”
