Backstage Update On Enzo Amore’s WWE Status After Getting Sick, How Bad Braun Strowman Was Last Week

WWE Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore missed Monday’s RAW title match with #1 contender Cedric Alexander due to a bad case of the flu. Enzo was also pulled from the Mixed Match Challenge, which begins on January 16th.

Enzo reportedly got sick while in Toronto over the weekend with WWE for the annual holiday live event tour. He had been wrestling Kalisto all week but did not wrestle in Toronto. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Enzo got sick while in Toronto but he did not want to go to the hospital there. He then flew to Miami for RAW on New Year’s Eve and ended up going to the hospital on New Year’s Day. He checked himself out of the hospital on Monday and went to the arena for RAW but officials didn’t want him there because they were worried that he might be contagious.

There was concern backstage after Braun Strowman had left the tour earlier in the week due to the flu but was back for RAW. The Observer notes that Braun was said to be violently ill. As Raj noted before, there were other wrestlers that were sick backstage on Monday and several were given an IV. It was not confirmed that they had the flu or another illness but many skipped going out on New Year’s Eve the night before because they were sick.

No word yet on when Enzo will be back in the ring but it could be this weekend as he has been medically cleared. No word yet on why he was pulled from the Mixed Match Challenge, which doesn’t begin for another 2 weeks. The match with Cedric is still expected to take place when Enzo returns.

Braun Strowman Returns, Challenges Roman Reigns To An Ambulance Match

Braun Strowman made a surprise return last night on RAW. Strowman arrived to the arena in an ambulance which distracted Roman Reigns and allowed Samoa Joe to take advantage and choke Reigns out with the Coquina Clutch.

Strowman made his way to the ring after the match to remind Reigns that he is not finished with him. Strowman slammed Roman to the mat with a reverse chokeslam and challenged him to an ambulance match at the upcoming Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view.

Braun was expected to be out of action four to eight weeks and not up to six months as WWE wrote on WWE.com to further storylines, so it looks like everything is on schedule.

More On Braun Strowman’s WWE Return

After having minor elbow surgery, reports have gone back and forth on if Braun Strowman is cleared for action by the WWE.

No matter the case, it looks like he will be scheduled to work the Great Balls of Fire PPV on July 9. It’s expected to be against Roman Reigns, since that was the original plan before Strowman would go on to face Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.

Strowman and Lesnar’s SummerSlam match was – as of last week – planned to be the show’s main event.

Braun Strowman Cleared For WWE Return

Braun Strowman has been cleared to return to action, according to PWInsider. Word going around at last night’s WWE RAW was that Strowman was cleared a week ago. He will be back on RAW as soon as creative comes up with a plan for his return.

Strowman underwent elbow surgery in mid-May to fix some issues he’d been dealing with. WWE reported then that Braun would be out of action for up to 6 months but it was speculated that the lengthy absence was announced just to set up a super-human comeback ahead of schedule.

It will be interesting to see how WWE brings Strowman back as he’s still in a feud with Roman Reigns. Braun has stated that he’s not done with Reigns yet. As noted, Reigns will be on next week’s RAW to announce his SummerSlam plans.

Update On Braun Strowman, How Long Will He Be Out, Possible SummerSlam Plans

WWE reported on Monday that Braun Strowman is expected to be out of action for up to six months after undergoing successful elbow surgery.

“Strowman underwent surgery on Thursday in Birmingham, Ala. with Dr. Jeffrey Dugas,” the company wrote on their website. “During the procedure, it was revealed, among his other injuries, that Strowman’s elbow had been shattered, and he is expected to miss up to six months of action as a result.”

Dave Meltzer revealed on Wrestling Observer Radio that the six month number is a work, and Strowman is actually expected to wrestle at SummerSlam. Strowman will likely face WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar at the event and return in mid-July to start the build for the match.

Meltzer speculated that WWE will swap Brock Lesnar’s original opponent for SummerSlam – which was most likely Seth Rollins or Finn Balor – for the main event of the Great Balls Of Fire pay-per-view in July. As seen on RAW last night, WWE announced that Rollins, Balor, Samoa Joe, Bray Wyatt and Roman Reigns will square off in a Fatal 5-Way at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view on June 4th, with the winner becoming the new #1 contender.

Braun Strowman Underwent Elbow Surgery, Expected To Be Out For Up To 6 Months

WWE announced that Braun Strowman is expected to be out of action for up to 6 months after undergoing elbow surgery. It was originally believed he would be out of action for 4-6 weeks. As noted, Braun had been dealing with elbow issues and needed a minor procedure to correct them.

WWE announced the following:

Braun Strowman undergoes elbow surgeryBraun Strowman underwent surgery following the attack by Roman Reigns last Monday on Raw, WWE.com can now confirm.

Immediately after the assault on Strowman’s injured shoulder and elbow by the former WWE Champion, The Monster Among Men left Raw in an ambulance and was able to get back to the United States for an evaluation this past Wednesday. Following the medical consultation, Strowman underwent surgery on Thursday in Birmingham, Ala. with Dr. Jeffrey Dugas. During the procedure, it was revealed, among his other injuries, that Strowman’s elbow had been shattered, and he is expected to miss up to six months of action as a result.

Braun Strowman Sidelined With Elbow Issue, Estimated To Be Out Of Action 4-8 Weeks

Pro Wrestling Sheet reports that Braun Strowman is scheduled to be out of action following last night’s Raw taping to undergo a minor procedure to fix some issues with his elbow.

The Report says Strowman Will be gone four to eight weeks due to the undisclosed injury/surgery, causing creative to re-tool plans for Extreme Rules and Great Balls of Fire pay-per-views.

Strowman’s character on TV is supposedly suffering from a torn rotator cuff — even though he’s been wrestling Roman Reigns in street fights on the UK/European tour — and his injury angle was furthered at the TV taping tonight to officially give him time to get fixed up.

Strowman came out in a sling to wrestle Kalisto, but Reigns quickly interrupted. The segment ended with Roman hitting Braun’s arm with a steel chair on the steps.

Update  from F4WOnline via WrestlingINC

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that while Braun’s operation is not considered to be major, the problem is they don’t know how long he will be out of action until he has the surgery.

Braun and Roman Reigns have been working the current European tour but last night’s RAW angle was done to write Braun off TV for a few weeks. Braun’s absence will force creative changes to the June 4th Extreme Rules pay-per-view and the July 2nd Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view. Meltzer noted that Reigns vs. Strowman was the planned Extreme Rules main event while Braun vs. WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar was scheduled for Great Balls of Fire.

No word yet on what the new main events will be but plans for Lesnar appear to be up in the air.
