Backstage News On WrestleMania 36 Plans For Becky Lynch

It was previously reported that WWE wanted to do Charlotte Flair vs. current RAW & SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 36 in 2020, but they now have a new plan in mind for Lynch.

WWE is doing Flair vs. Lynch at the WWE Money In the Bank pay-per-view on May 19 because they have a new match planned for Lynch at WrestleMania 36, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. There’s no word yet on who the match will be against, but word is that it’s not Flair or Ronda Rousey.

Lynch is currently scheduled to be the top female Superstar booked on the WrestleMania 36 card.

It was noted that if Rousey wants to return for WrestleMania 36, then a match with Lynch isn’t out of the question, but it’s not the planned match.

It’s Official: Becky Lynch Will Do Double Duty At WWE Money In The Bank

It was reported earlier today that Becky Lynch was most likely going to pull double duty at WWE Money In The Bank. Tonight on SmackDown Live it was made official, The Man will indeed be doing double duty at MITB. Becky will defend her RAW Women’s Championship against Lacey Evans and defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Charlotte Flair, who earned the title shot by defeating Bayley tonight on SmackDown.

Becky Lynch Pulling Double Duty At WWE Money In The Bank?

The current plan is for RAW and SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch to pull double duty at the May 19 WWE Money In the Bank pay-per-view from Hartford, CT.

As noted, Lacey Evans vs. Lynch for the RAW Women’s Title was confirmed for Money In the Bank on last night’s RAW. Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that the plan as of Monday was for Lynch to defend both titles in two different matches at the pay-per-view.

There’s no word yet on who Lynch’s second opponent will be, for the SmackDown Women’s Title, but it could be Charlotte Flair. A face-off segment between Flair and Lynch is scheduled to take place on tonight’s SmackDown episode.

Becky Lynch Says Ronda Rousey Could Not Handle The WWE Schedule

RAW and SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch spoke with Sports Illustrated this week and said she is resolute in the belief that she was built for this business, unlike Ronda Rousey.

“Only four months after having a part-time schedule, after making her debut at WrestleMania—having been on the cover of everything, just handed everything, she was crying in her kitchen about how she couldn’t make her husband breakfast,” Lynch said. “She couldn’t hack our schedule. Yet we do this every single night, 52 weeks a year, yet she couldn’t handle it for four months.”

Regarding her recent rise to being one of WWE’s most popular Superstars, Lynch said she treats her spot like a political campaign.

“I approach this as a political campaign,” she explained. “Any time I’ve the opportunity to get my voice out there, get myself heard and my message across, I use it. I want to make sure I do the people proud.”

It was noted that Lynch now hopes to headline the grandest stage of them all two years in a row with the WrestleMania 36 main event in Tampa on April 5, 2020.

“This is when the hard work starts. I’ve got two championships to make,” said Lynch.

Backstage News On WWE Wanting To Do A Big WrestleMania 35 Rematch

Multiple sources have confirmed to Sports Illustrated that the finish of the “Winner Takes All” WrestleMania 35 main event with Charlotte Flair, Ronda Rousey and SmackDown & RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch went off as planned.

As previously reported, the match was scheduled to end with Lynch pinning Rousey. According to SI, the finish with Lynch pinning Rousey while Rousey got her shoulder up was designed to protect Rousey and keep her character strong. The controversial finish allows Rousey to say Lynch did not legitimately defeat her.

SI also reported that WWE officials reportedly have Rousey tentatively planned to face Lynch in a singles rematch at WrestleMania 36 on April 5, 2020 from Tampa. Dave Meltzer added on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE officials do want to do the rematch, but there’s no date for her return yet and there’s no date or plans confirmed for the rematch.

Rousey is expected to step away from WWE for now. She has stated in media interviews in the past that she wants to have children with husband Travis Browne, which throws out any timetable for a return if they plan to do so during her break. She will also need to recover from the broken hand that she suffered during the match while throwing punches.

Lacey Evans Starts Feud With Becky Lynch On RAW

It looks like new SmackDown Women’s and RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch could be feuding with Lacey Evans next.

After Lynch came to the ring to cut a promo on her WrestleMania 35 main event win over Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair during tonight’s post-WrestleMania RAW episode, Evans interrupted and walked the ramp like she’s been doing for several weeks on WWE TV. They met at the bottom of the ramp and stared each other down until Evans rocked Lynch in the mouth. Evans then turned to walk back up the ramp but Becky attacked her from behind. The two brawled up the ramp and to the stage. The segment ended with Evans standing tall and taunting Lynch while officials held The Man back.

Backstage News On The WWE RAW Arrest Angle With Ronda Rousey, Becky Lynch And Charlotte Flair

The final WWE RAW episode before WrestleMania 35 was mainly used to promote the Triple Threat “Winner Takes All” main event with Becky Lynch, RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey and SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair.

The segment that ended with Lynch, Flair and Rousey getting arrested by Washington, DC police was a collaborative effort with many different people giving creative input, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Vince McMahon obviously had ideas for the angle, as did all three of the women involved. Others who helped book the segment were Paul Heyman, Kevin Dunn and Marty Miller. It’s no secret that Heyman has been working closely behind-the-scenes with Rousey and the creative for her Road to WrestleMania 35 storyline. Miller is a longtime WWE camera operator and director, who also worked for the XFL. His Twitter bio says he is the director of TV for WWE NXT, RAW, SmackDown and Tough Enough.

The backstage part of the segment with the police cars was taped before RAW hit the air and edited. The Observer noted that you could see some of the camera cuts if you looked closely. Above is a SmackDown video package that recapped the arrest angle.

On a related note, the unmarked and DC police cars were brought to Baltimore, MD for SmackDown the next day on a flatbed truck. The one car was used for the quick scene that saw Lynch get dropped off at the arena, sirens blaring, but that’s all they were used for.
