Backstage News On Paige’s WWE Status After She Recovers From Neck Surgery

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Newsletter that unless things change, WWE has no plans to use Paige going forward after she is recovered from her neck surgery that she had last October. It was noted that the reason for WWE not using her again is “everything that’s happened.”

Paige has been out of action since suffering the neck injury in June of 2016. Since then she has had two Wellness violations. She has been filmed with boyfriend Alberto Del Rio on social media as he bashed the company and Triple H. Explicit sex tapes were also leaked featuring her.

Last February, Del Rio and Paige were on Busted Open and noted that she was undergoing physical therapy. Del Rio said that Paige was hoping to return to action by May.

“I’m 100% sure that she’ll be the most successful female wrestler of all time,” Del Rio said in February. “She just needs to get well and she’ll be back in the ring around April or May, I don’t know, when the doctor’s have their final decision.”

Meltzer noted that the only thing that might save her job with WWE is the upcoming movie produced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on Paige’s family, Fighting with My Family, which wrapped filming earlier this month.

Vader Passes Out After Match In Japan, Reveals What Happened

Vader briefly collapsed after a match at Korakuen Hall in Japan on Thursday.

Vader was teaming with Keiji Muto & AKIRA in a six-man tag team match against Tatsumi Fujinami, Riki Choshu & Shiro Koshinaka. After the match there was a ceremony honoring Fujinami and Vader fainted in the ring. Vader was able to eventually come to and leave the ring on his own.

Vader took to Twitter and said that he collapsed because he was dropped on his head during the match, and that it didn’t have anything to do with his recent heart issues.

As noted, Vader had tweeted out last November that he had two years to live due to congestive heart failure. He later said that he regretted making the tweets.

“I really kind of regret tweeting it out,” Vader told The Two Man Power Trip Of Wrestling last month. “In other words when I got diagnosed and was told, ‘Leon, you have a bad heart and you have congestive heart failure and we feel your time is limited and you have maybe a couple of years left… two years or less to live.’ I remember getting very angry and said this has gotta be bulls–t because I don’t feel bad and I remember getting extremely angry. Since that time and when I got the news I left the hospital and went right to the gym and rode the bike for a half hour. Hard. As hard as I could and when I got off the bike and got on the treadmill and walked for another 15 minutes pretty hard and I was exhausted but my heart felt fine so how can I do that if my heart is going to give out? The doctor in some of the ongoing appointments that I had with him explained to me that when you are tipping the scales at 400 and 420-25 pounds that a man that size and that heavy isn’t supposed to be able to push himself in a cardiovascular endeavor no matter what it is much past 2 or 3 minutes.”

Lucha Underground Wrestlers Allowed To Appear On Impact Due To AAA Deal, But Not Their Characters

The deal between Anthem and AAA may see wrestlers from Lucha Underground appear on Impact, but they’re not allowed to portray their El Rey characters.

Sources with knowledge of the situation say El Rey officials are very happy with LU and optimistic about making another season of the show, once all the episodes they’ve filmed have been shown.

Because so many episodes have already been filmed, the network is way ahead of production and not in a rush to officially green-light the next season yet.

As for AAA’s new partnership with Impact, sources say it’s possible for wrestlers from Lucha Underground to appear on Pop TV … as long as they don’t infringe on any of LU/El Rey’s intellectual property — which makes sense considering the company has been fighting Pentagon Jr and Fenix over the rights to their characters.

Ricochet aka Prince Puma tweeted about LU possibly allowing their talent to appear on Impact and said, “So they can randomly do IMPACT but I can’t do ROH?? Hummm???”

Former WWE Superstar Matt “Rosey” Anoa’i passed away on Monday at the age of 47. Matt was the older brother to RAW Superstar Roman Reigns.

WWE issued the following:

WWE is saddened to learn that Matt Anoa’i, known to fans as Rosey, has passed away at age 47. The son of WWE Hall of Famer Sika and older brother of WWE Superstar Roman Reigns, Rosey grew up in the legendary Anoa’i wrestling dynasty.

He debuted in 2002 alongside his cousin Jamal as part of 3-Minute Warning. The imposing, powerful tandem tore through Raw’s tag team division before going their separate ways. Rosey then formed a beloved superhero duo with The Hurricane, which culminated in his first World Tag Team Championship reign.

The Anoa’i family shared the following statement:

“The Anoa’i family is mourning the loss of Sika’s son, Matt aka Rosey, due to an untimely death.

We want to let his fans know that he loved them and the wrestling world so much. In his passing, he left three beautiful young children and a heartbroken family. Please respect the privacy of his children and family as they mourn the loss of this kind, loving, gentle man, who was a father, son, brother and a superhero to us all.

Our family appreciates your prayers and continued support during this very difficult time.”

WWE extends its condolences to Rosey’s family, friends and fans.

WWE Reportedly Planning On Using Matt Hardy’s ‘Broken’ Gimmick

WWE is reportedly planning on using the “Broken” character for Matt Hardy. Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE is working on a deal with Impact Wrestling to use the character on television, which has yet to be finalized.

As noted, there have been legal issues with Matt Hardy using the “Broken” character with Impact Wrestling claiming ownership of the gimmick. Impact Wrestling recently added a trademark symbol (™) to videos on their YouTube channel containing references to the ‘Broken’ gimmick, including ‘Broken Matt’, ‘Brother Nero’ and ‘Broken Brilliance’. They also sent a cease and desist letter last month to pay-per-view providers airing the ROH 15th Anniversary pay-per-view regarding the intellectual property of the gimmick, which resulted in the Hardys not using most of the mannerisms associated with those characters on the show.

Hardy has been using some of the mannerisms of the “Broken” character on television since returning to WWE at WrestleMania 33 earlier this month. He has also been switching his Twitter description, using “#BROKEN”, “#Version1” and “#Mattitude.”
