If you missed it, last week after CM Punk kicked Jerry “The King” Lawler in the head, I wrote Ed’s Perspective: Punk Is A Coward . Well after watching the way RAW ended last night I have to write Part 2.
I make no bones about it. I’m a huge Lawler fan! I don’t apologize, I’m a wrestling fan first and foremost.
I am also sure that Lawler agreed to what went on during the main event and after the cage match between Lawler and Punk. But here are a few questions for all those who think what Punk is doing to Lawler is cool.
Why doesn’t Punk tell creative that he wants to do something sinister to, let’s say Kane? Or Broadus Clay? Or prove he’s really a man and take out Ryback?
Given that Lawler is probably more than willing to help put over Punk in his new “heel” role, why doesn’t creative say no thank you?
My partner here at DTRT Wrestling News, Trevor, sent me this text after the show last night.
That ending to Raw was tough to watch – didn’t enjoy it – it looked like a young punk beating an old man. He followed that text up with, “If I was head of creative, I would have said thank you Mr. Lawler but going to decline” if Lawler really did agree to help put Punk over.
And that’s exactly what it was! Lawler, 62, was born on November 29, 1949. Punk is 33 born on October 26, 1978 . Lawler is nearly twice as old as Punk. How does it make WWE look to have their champion be nothing better than a street thug who takes advantage of old people.
I know those who want to move from the PG rating love this, but Trevor and I agree – this is not good and not enjoyable.
What does beating down a 62 year old retired wrestler do to get respect? Ok, I know this is scripted – I know they all realize what’s going to happen before they do it. I know that the more Punk demands respect and beats up an old guy that it’s all meant to make us hate CM Punk. I get it already! Lawler is at his best at this point in his career doing commentary. Let him do what he does best – and believe me, he can put Punk over as a heel just as good from the announce table as he can laying flat in the ring.
Now, had Raw ended with the end of the match – there would have been no need for Part 2 of this post. I enjoyed seeing Lawler pull down the strap. And for all the Punk pushers – I wonder how they feel about him getting bloodied by a man that will soon qualify for Social Security?
So here’s the bottom line, so that I don’t have to write Part 3. It’s Punk vs Cena at Night of Champions. Let Punk do what he’s been doing to Lawler to Cena. Let him attack him backstage. Let GM AJ Lee either suspend or threaten to suspend him and watch him go postal on her (she might kick his ass though). But drop the Punk vs Lawler physical confrontations, unless of course you really want to go old school and let Lawler throw a fireball in Punk’s face – now that would even up the age difference a little.
The is the real world here. Tommy Dreamer asking for prayer for his mother. DTRT Wrestling comes from the DTRT Ministries fold and we believe in the power of prayer. Please join us in praying for Tommy’s mother.

On behalf on Ed and myself we feel obligated to share (for those who may not know) the REAL reason Chris Jericho was “fired” / “lost his contract” last night on WWE Raw was due to a tour with his band FOZZY. Chris Jericho is the band’s lead singer.
Be assured that he will still be available for you to see live only this time it will be rocking out on stage!
“Thanks to all of my Jerichoholics for an amazing 9 months! I have the BEST fans and I promise u haven’t seen the last of Y2J! See u on tour,” He added, “And congrats to @heelziggler for finally winning the big one.”
The first World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) Championship match was anything but memorable.
Buddy Rogers came into the bout as the inaugural WWWF title holder, having been awarded the prize by Vince McMahon Sr. when the league broke away from the National Wrestling Alliance in January 1963. The fight took place in Madison Square Garden on May 17, 1963, and Bruno Sammartino defeated Rogers in under a minute via submission with a backbreaker.
This is where the story gets interesting.
For some reason Sammartino never got the original belt from Rogers. Instead, a new one was made, and Sammartino wore that one for the eight years he spent atop the WWWF. So what happened to the first title belt? It had been a mystery, until this week.
Annie Barend, the widow of former WWWF wrestler Johnny Barend, was cleaning her attic in Avon, N.Y., recently when she found a belt wrapped in a bath towel. After some research, Barend discovered that she had stumbled upon Rogers’ original belt.
How Johnny Barend ended up with the belt is still unclear, although there are some clues. Known as “Handsome Johnny Barend,” he was a tag-team partner of Rogers. In fact, the two even defeated Sammartino in a tag-team match two months after the original title bout.
Barend verified the belt’s authenticity with Dave Millican, a belt maker for the WWE. Millican recognized the belt immediately and was so enamored that he bought it from Barend.
“It makes you wonder what else is stashed away in people’s attics. It really does,” Millican told SLAM! Wrestling. “It makes you wonder what other historical belts, and not just belts, but pieces of wrestling history, are stashed away in attics that people don’t even realize they have. Annie didn’t even realize what she had — and why would she?”
As A.W. predicted, his original Twitter account was suspended after the terminated WWE Superstar posted a multitude of messages disparaging his former employer and Vince McMahon’s wife Linda McMahon. A.W., however, set up another account under his real name, Brian Jossie, at BJRatedR and has continued to sound off on the sports-entertainment organization as well as Linda.
Jossie believes WWE had his original account shut down, writing, “Yeah the #WWE shut down my old account. It’s all good. It was fun while it lasted.” When asked whether the account was his property, he responded, “Not really sure. Although when it comes to the #WWE they own everything like Satan, including your soul, lol!”
Jossie, who blames Linda and her ongoing U.S. Senate campaign for his termination from WWE, subsequently posted three images ridiculing the political hopeful. In the first pic, he posted a joke poster of Linda reading “UNSTOPPABLE”-a takeoff of the Barack Obama “Hope” poster. He then posted an unflattering photo of Linda, noting, “Is it me or does Linda McMahon make Hilary Clinton look like Angelina f–king Jolie!!” Jossie was also sent a side-by-side image of Linda and the Cryptkeeper and asked if he sees a resemblance. “Yep! CryptKeeper might have her beat,” he wrote.
Jossie had also tweeted, “@Linda_McMahon has cost more negroes jobs than hurricane Katrina!!” However, he stated minutes later that he doesn’t hate Linda and that he’s merely joking around.
“I don’t hate Linda, I’m doing what a comedian would do. Making light of a serious situation inorder to make people think!” Jossie wrote.
He then continued the Linda jokes, writing, “David Duke would hire my black ass before @Linda_McMahon!” He then added, “Sorry I won’t be HANGING out at any #WWE shows. There’s enough pro wrestling lynching as it is….”
In response to a fan comment stating, “It’s pretty damn funny that @WWE actually thinks @Linda_McMahon has a chance at winning,” Jossie responded, “Agreed, Them muthaf–kas are as high as Jeff Hardy!!!”
Jossie was also asked whether one needs to “play the game” in order to survive the political minefield of WWE. He responded, “Politics is a must. Everyone plays the GAME!! Some (Divas) more than others….#WinkWink #HHH.”
A Twitter user sent Jossie a mock graphic proposing a Street Fight between himself and Vince McMahon at WrestleMania XXIX, to which he responded, “Ha! Yeah I’d whoop that old man’s ass! I’d only do it if Shane and Steph joined in. #McMahonSmackdown!” He also noted “as soon as I see Vince on TV this Nike is gonna f–k my plasma up!!”
Jossie was also asked how WWE would have acted had he made a Mike Tyson rape joke rather than a Kobe Bryant one. “Nope I would have probably got a raise! #WhatThef–k?” he responded.
Finally, Jossie was asked whether he’s calling out WWE for exposure, to be controversial or out of bitterness. “I’m just saying my peace. I wish more people would be like JTG and not be afraid to speak up. #Courage,” he says.
According to a WZROnline.com source, WWE sent out emails and text messages to their talents on Sunday stating that there will be a major meeting backstage at RAW at 3PM on Monday to address ongoing issues with travel and pay. The company is extremely worried with A.W.s’ most recent Twitter rants as well as JTG’s rant last Monday prior to RAW. They will also be trying to calm down numerous other mid-card talents before they go out on social media as well. It all comes down to nearly half of the current roster being frustrated with numerous issues (travel & pay). They’ve basically had enough and are all coming together as one to call out the company. It’s obviously not a good time for this to be happening with Linda McMahon’s senate campaign and is also part of the reason talents are speaking up now. They feel that WWE will be forced to do something about it.
