RAW Preview: 7/25/16

Source: WWE.com

The New Era of RAW begins:

What will Commissioner Stephanie McMahon and General Manager Mick Foley do to beat SmackDown Live?

Will Finn Balor and Nia Jax make their first appearances as RAW stars?

Kevin Owens was embarrassed at Battleground, who will he take it out on?

Without the WWE Championship – Where will Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins take their rivalry next?

Of all Superstars’ reactions to their Draft destinations, Cesaro’s was by far the most shocking. The typically soft-spoken Swiss Superman openly discussed his desire to be a member of the SmackDown Live roster, and his disappointment that he wasn’t selected to a show that prioritizes in-ring competition over the showmanship that has typically defined Raw. Who will step up to face Cesaro?

WWE Announces The First Ever WWE SummerSlam Concert With Flo Rida – Connor’s Cure Benefit

WWE announced the following:

WWE, Barclays Center and iHeartMedia have announced that the first WWE SummerSlam Concert will take place Thursday, Aug. 18, at 7 p.m. ET at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, with proceeds benefiting Connor’s Cure, a fund to help further pediatric cancer research.

The announcement was made by Stephanie McMahon on “Elvis Duran and the Morning Show.”

Tickets for the concert, headlined by hip-hop recording artist Flo Rida and international pop superstar Jason Derulo, will go on sale this Friday, July 29, at 12 p.m. ET at Ticketmaster.com. The concert is part of WWE’s week-long lineup of events, including interactive fan experiences and community outreach programs, culminating with SummerSlam on Sunday, Aug. 21, at 7 p.m. ET from a sold-out Barclays Center and live on WWE Network around the world.

The WWE SummerSlam Concert will also include performances by recording artist Daya and emerging hip-hop recording artist Jordan Hollywood, as well as appearances by WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon, WWE Executive Vice President Talent, Live Events & Creative Paul “Triple H” Levesque and many WWE Superstars.

A portion of proceeds from the concert will benefit Connor’s Cure, and be distributed to leading research centers and hospitals nationwide. In 2014, Connor’s Cure was created by McMahon and Levesque as a fund within Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation to support pediatric brain and spinal cord cancer research. Earlier this year, WWE and The V Foundation announced a partnership to expand Connor’s Cure outside of Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation and support cancer research nationally.

“I’m definitely honored to be a part of this spectacular event with my WWE family,” said Flo Rida. “They have been there from day one, and I truly appreciate the opportunity to perform for all my WWE fans.”

“We are proud to bring together some of the biggest names in music and entertainment for one night to support Connor’s Cure,” said WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon. “The first-ever WWE SummerSlam Concert will offer fans another opportunity to participate in SummerSlam Week while raising much-needed awareness and funds to support pediatric cancer research.”

“Partnering with WWE is a very heartfelt experience,” said Susan Braun, CEO, The V Foundation. “The V Foundation is honored to work side by side with Stephanie McMahon, Paul Levesque and the entire WWE team to increase the amount of research devoted to children’s cancers. Our world-class scientific advisory committee, who oversees the highly competitive V Foundation Grant process, ensures that the most important work is being funded: Research that will lead to saving children’s lives.”

“We’re excited to bring the first-ever WWE SummerSlam Concert to Barclays Center through our Brooklyn Direct programming division,” said Brett Yormark, CEO of Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment. “We’re in our second year of a sold-out SummerSlam Weekend, and are proud to bring a new element of entertainment to this great series of events.”

Connor’s Cure was established in honor of 8-year-old WWE fan Connor Michalek, a patient at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC who battled medulloblastoma, a rare tumor that affects the brain and spinal cord. To date, Connor’s Cure has raised more than $1 million and assisted more than 100 families around the world.

South Florida rapper and songwriter Jordan Hollywood is blowing up the charts. Paul Heyman Expected To Appear At SummerSlam, Despite Contract Holdup

Source: Pro Wrestling Sheet

Paul Heyman is currently negotiating a new deal with WWE after his contract expired in May but, it shouldn’t keep him from appearing at SummerSlam.

The Wrestling Observer first reported Heyman’s contract status this week, and now multiple sources tell us the holdup is over both sides trying to settle on the extent of Paul’s outside projects.

Back in March, Brock Lesnar’s advocate signed a distribution deal with Yahoo Sports to produce exclusive content for their site. He also announced this year that he’d be doing a reality show.

Despite the delay, we’re told the two sides are expected to hammer everything out before SummerSlam so that he can accompany Brock Lesnar to the ring for his match against Randy Orton.

WWE Reaches Out To More Former Talent About Returning To The Company

Source: WrestlingNewsCo.com

WWE continues to reach out to former talent about returning to help fill out the rosters. As first reported earlier by Pro Wrestling Sheet, Jinder Mahal was one of the names that WWE has talked with. Multiple sources told us that MVP and Shelton Benjamin have agreed to a deal. We were also told that WWE has shown interest in Melina but, as of last word, no deal has been reached yet with her.

For those that have asked about Kurt Angle, he is not taking additional independent bookings this year. He is taking time to heal up from his knee issues and the feeling from his management is that he still expects for something to pan out with WWE next year.

In regards to the stories going around about Jeff Hardy, he is open to a return to WWE but he is still on the last year of his TNA contract. His contract expires on February 28, 2017 so that would, in theory, be perfect timing for a return during WrestleMania season.

One story making the rounds within WWE is that some of the names that they have reached out to have turned down WWE because they were offering low-level deals to some names. That’s the reason why Carlito turned down their initial offer to return last year.

All signings are not official until the standard medical exams are completed in Pittsburgh and the talent is being told to keep things quiet.

The New Day Reaches Milestone

Source: WrestlingINC

Wednesday, The New Day became the longest reigning WWE tag team champions in history by breaking the 331 title reign set by Paul London and Brian Kendrick. If you combine title reigns, The New Day are way ahead at 382 days and counting, while London & Kendrick are at second with 331 days for their only run with the titles.

It should be noted that the record is for the WWE Tag Team Championship, which was established for the SmackDown! brand in 2002 before being unified with the World Tag Team Championship in 2009. The World Tag Team Championship dates back to 1971 and the record that title sits at 698 combined days for Demolition’s three reigns.
