There was indeed talk among WWE talent that CM Punk might return. They were told this this during Friday’s creative meeting, they didn’t know for sure until Monday afternoon. Wrestling Observer explains that was reason for the confusion. There was no plans to include Punk in the script but the crowd was fired up & the Paul Heyman open was added at the very last minute. The felling was that if they addressed it right at the beginning the crowd would settle down.
