Episode two of Total Divas had plenty of “drama” and much less back stage action than last week, and the back stage things were almost all drama related too. The main focus tonight was Eva Marie’s failed scheme to dance with Fandango and the relationships of John Cena and Daniel Bryan and their Bella Twins girlfriends.
There were actually two major story lines with Eva Marie. The situation where she lies and says she has been a trained ballroom dancer in order to try to get into a major story, and also her boyfriend showing up, proposing to her, and giving her an engagement ring. Then there’s also how those two combine, and finally Stephanie McMahon’s reaction when Eva Marie is caught in her lie.
Let’s break each of these down and then move on to the other parts of the show.
Eva Marie sees an opportunity when it comes to Fandango using someone as his dance partner. She goes as far as telling Talent Relations that she was a trained ballroom dancer in order to get a shot at the position. She obviously didn’t think it through very well, as when they rehearsed for RAW, she was horrible. One person from Talent Relations stormed away pissed off that she had been played, and the other one told Eva Marie that he had no dance training and even he knew she was terrible.
The timing of her boyfriend coming to town, asking her to marry him, giving her an engagement ring, and then having to leave town was all very, well let’s just say awkward. Reason being, Eva Marie was also trying to work Fandango to win his “support” for her to be his dance partner. This included her going out on the town with him for which she removed her new engagement ring.
Putting those two issues together, the lying and scheming plus her willingness to place her engagement ring in it’s box makes one wonder just what she will do to get what she wants.
However, she gets set straight by none other than Stephanie McMahon. Basically she is told she just got her break and that anything like that again and she would be gone.
So in two episodes, Eva Marie has totally gone against what she was told about dying her hair blond, and now this. Here comes an Ed opinion – I don’t care how good you are and whether you are a newbie or not, but especially because she IS a newbie, she deserves to be fired. I actually believed that over the hair issue last week, but this week totally reinforced my initial gut feeling.
With the Bellas, Cena and Bryan we get a look at their lives at Cena’s home in Tampa and Bryan’s home in Washington state. Wow, what a difference. You really have to watch the episode to appreciate how nice the mansion is that Cena lives in. At the opposite end, Bryan lives in the home he grew up in with none of the bells and whistles.
The other major issue in this episode has to do with the Funkadactyls and their costume designer.
Again, a lot more drama and “reality show” issues tonight. A good episode, but I’m hoping that we continue to get good looks at the wrestling side and not just the drama involved in personal lives.
