If there’s one thing that has frustrated me more about the WWE in the past year is the lack of focus on the diva’s division. These talented and athletic wrestlers have not been given the chance to show off their abilities unlike Impact Wrestling where the “Knockouts” are given the chance to wrestle every week. In 2013 it amazes me how much the “good-ole-boy” mentality still has such a strong hold on the industry and in this case the WWE. These female wrestlers are just as athletic and can put on one hell of a match when given the fair opportunity.
I hate to even bring this up but I have to use the match at TNA Slammiversery as a perfect example of what a fair match is when it comes to female wrestling. Our society is way past the old-fashioned outdated belief that women wrestlers need to be managers, valets and the like. In the WWE Kaitlyn, AJ Lee, Tamina and others are clearly waiting to show off their in-ring abilities. Regardless who the winner is this Sunday at the WWE Pbayback pay-per-view the storyline between AJ Lee and Kaitlyn must continue.
When will the WWE learn that most wrestling fans want to see women’s wrestling? No gimmick matches but REAL wrestling and a fair amount of time in the ring? The WWE broadcasts for 3 hours every Monday night there is no excuse for not giving equal time to a diva’s match every week. Yeah we get it WWE, your “family entertainment” if you want to set a good example then let the diva’s actually wrestle. I’m tired of the segments and all the promos I want to see real wrestling.
When it was announced that AJ Lee would be facing Kaitlyn for the diva’s championship I was excited. However I’ve realized that the creative forces within the WWE have let fans down so much that I began to question if they would actually follow through with this plan. The WWE creative team is famous for beginning stortylines and then ending them without a good finish.
When I think of AJ Lee and Kaitlyn I am reminded of the epic battles between Trish Stratus and Lita. The potential is there for a feud that I believe would bring so much needed attention to the diva;s division it would reinvent the entire concept of what a diva is. NO, I am not calking for a return to the “attitude era” I am calling for fairness in the 21st century. This Sunday while everyone is focused on the male-dominated main event at WWE payback I will be hoping for a main-event quality match from both AJ and Kaitlyn.
For those that want to bring up the issue of so-called “ring rust” when it comes to AJ Lee might I ask “Who’s fault is it?” She has been given the role of your typical diva and has been given very little time to actually compete. Diva’s get more in-ring time at NXT then they do on the WWE main roster. Don’t you think that’s a little messed up?
For those superfans of AJ and Kaitlyn and other diva’s might I also suggest that just settling for seeing your favorite diva on TV regardless of what she is actually doing is not good enough? Is it really unfair to demand a little more wrestling for your favorite diva’s? Those of us who ask for fairness are no less fans then you are. We just know that they can do so much more when given the fairness which they deserve.
